Chapter 214: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 214: Inviting Guests to the Warm Room, Buying Cattle and Horses (7)
In case of any emergencies in the future, relying solely on two legs might cause delays. Now that they had sheds for carts and cattle, they didn't have to worry about not having a place to house them.
The carriage was for their own transportation, and buying plow oxen was also convenient for the Mo family, which owned twenty mu of land. Moreover, buying two oxen could allow them to rent them out to villagers during busy farming seasons. Although they wouldn't make much money, it would improve their standing among the villagers.
Mo Yan had to visit the Liu family first, so Li Zhong couldn't accompany her and went to the place in the southern market where livestock was sold.
It was Mo Yan's first time visiting the Liu family, so she brought some appropriate gifts before knocking on their door.
Master Liu had gone to the academy early in the morning, leaving only Madam Liu at home. She warmly welcomed Mo Yan.
Mo Yan was considered a lifesaver to Liu Tinglan, so Madam Liu had always had a good impression of her. Seeing Mo Yan still holding gifts in her hands, Madam Liu politely declined but was secretly pleased.
Although the Liu family was not wealthy, they valued scholarly pursuits and etiquette. Madam Liu didn't care much for these material items, but she could see from Mo Yan's gesture that she was a well-mannered young lady. She felt relieved that her daughter played with such a girl and didn't mind her visiting their house.
It had been a long time since Liu Tinglan had seen Mo Yan, so she was extremely happy to see her and eagerly insisted on going to the Mo family's house. However, Madam Liu scolded her for being improper.
Liu Tinglan pouted and made a face when her mother wasn't looking. But thinking that she would be able to visit her good friend's house in a few days, and maybe even convince her mother to let them stay there, she felt better.
After confirming that the Liu family would come to congratulate the Mo family, Mo Yan took her leave. Since the mother and daughter knew she had other things to do, they didn't offer her a meal but personally escorted her out of the house.
On her way to the Huixian Residence, Mo Yan bought a lot of pastries from a pastry shop on the roadside, which she planned to take to visit the Yun siblings.
Knowing Mo Yan's purpose for visiting, the shopkeeper congratulated her and assured her that he would attend. Then, he called for Yun Zhao, who was washing vegetables in the kitchen.
Compared to a month ago, Yun Zhao had gained some weight and had a healthier complexion. He looked very well.
Yun Zhao was overjoyed to see Mo Yan. After consulting with the shopkeeper, he eagerly took her to the backyard where his sister lived.
Mo Yan ask about the siblings' life at the Huixian Residence. Learning that they were being well taken care of there, he felt relieved, and Mo Yan was reassured.
"Sister, can my sister and I go with Master Xing to your house when the time comes?" Yun Zhao asked carefully, his face filled with longing.
Learning that the Mo family was hosting a banquet, Yun Zhao asked Mo Yan with great enthusiasm. Mo Yan couldn't bear to refuse him, thinking he just wanted to see the excitement. She smiled and replied, "You'll have to ask shopkeeper Xing. If he agrees to take you, then Sister will naturally welcome you."
Yun Zhao nodded excitedly and started thinking about how to convince shopkeeper Xing.
After leaving the Huixian Residence, Mo Yan went to the wood shop.
The shopkeeper at the wood shop had a cooperative relationship with Mo Yan, so he naturally wouldn't refuse to attend the Mo family's housewarming. Before Mo Yan left, he was already thinking about what congratulatory gift to send.
Having invited everyone they needed to, Mo Yan went to the southern market. When she arrived, Li Zhong was already there, accompanied by a cattle dealer, inspecting the cattle.
The dealer had tied up more than twenty cattle of various sizes. Li Zhong had already selected two: one was two and a half years old, and the other was one and a half years old. They were both young yellow oxen with good teeth, and they were waiting for Mo Yan's opinion.
