Chapter 103: Fever - Rebirth of the Noble Daughter

 Chapter 103: Fever

"These days, Madam has suffered. When spring comes next year and I have some free time, I'll take leave and take you and Ah Yao back to Jiangnan again. I saw how much you enjoyed it last time."

"Really?" Madam Feng looked at him happily, her face showing a lot of excitement.

"Madam, rest assured, I won't break my promise!"

These words made Madam Feng happier than any mountain delicacies!

She couldn't help but think of the scenery in Jiangnan a few years ago, which had a sweet place in her dreams.

Feng Hai looked at his wife sleeping beside him, recalling the past twenty or thirty years, feeling deeply emotional, and soon fell asleep.

Early the next morning, Feng Jinyao came over to accompany the couple for breakfast.

Little did they know, as soon as they entered the courtyard, they heard footsteps behind them and knew without looking back that it was the second son, Feng Jinlin.

"Ah Yao, are you here to have breakfast with Mother too?"

"Yes, Second Brother?"

"Yeah, Mother sent someone to wake me up early this morning."

This was a bit strange. Normally, with Father and Eldest Brother around, Second Brother wouldn't willingly come. He was afraid they'd lecture him with those ear-battering big principles, so why was he here today, so cheerful?

As they entered, Bai Mama had already instructed the preparation of a breakfast table filled with their usual favorites, so there was quite a variety.

"Father and Mother, please accept my greetings."

The siblings entered and greeted them properly.

Madam Feng loved her children dearly, so she naturally urged them to sit down quickly, but Feng Hai wasn't wearing a frown today, and he seemed to be in a good mood.

"I had someone call your Eldest Brother and his wife. They'll be here in a moment."

"Mother, is there something special today? Why did you call us all together like this?" Feng Jinlin was the first to speak, curious.

Madam Feng tapped his forehead gently. "Master and eldest son only get to be at home together for a few days a year. Usually, they can't even sit at the same table together. I wanted us all to have a meal together while we can."

"I see. I thought Mother had some good news to announce, so I rushed over."

"You, this child, can't I ask you to come and have breakfast with me for no reason?" Madam Feng teased.

Feng Hai's gaze towards Feng Jinlin grew a bit colder. Even his own mother dared to talk back. It seemed he had been too lenient. Just as he was about to speak, someone outside spoke up.

It was Yueli who entered, with no one else behind her.

"Where are Ah Xu and the others?"

"Madam, Eldest Young Master wasn't feeling well early this morning. Madam Wen was busy taking care of him, so Master was afraid of spreading the illness. He sent me to inform you that they won't be joining you for breakfast today."

"Yunhe is sick? What happened? Is it serious?"

Madam Feng cherished her eldest grandson the most. Upon hearing he was ill, she lost all appetite for breakfast and anxiously asked.

Yueli chuckled softly, "It's nothing serious. Eldest Young Master just has a bit of a fever and feels a little weak. The estate physician examined him and said it might be from catching a chill overnight. A couple doses of medicine should set him right."

"At his age, still catching chills from kicking off the covers? How can the servants not pay attention and be more vigilant?"

Madam Feng, concerned for her grandson, naturally had more to say. Feng Hai waved his hand at Yueli to signal her to leave first.

Turning to his wife, he said, "The child caught a slight chill, nothing serious. If you're worried, after breakfast, I'll accompany you to see him. It's been a few days since I've seen Yunhe and Yunli."

"Husband, I have no appetite. Shall we go over now?"

Madam Feng was too worried to eat, so Feng Hai naturally agreed. Feng Jinyao had gotten up early and wasn't hungry at the moment, while Feng Jinlin seemed somewhat displeased. He whispered to his mother, "Mother, I came early this morning and haven't even had a sip of hot tea. Shall we eat a bit first before going? Otherwise, all this food will go to waste."

Madam Feng glanced at him and understood his reasoning. However, her earlier joy had dissipated, and she reluctantly sat down, "Alright, let's eat first and then go."

Feng Jinlin smiled in response, helping Madam Feng to sit down and offering her a bowl of soy milk, trying to appease her.

Seeing her son's attentive manner, Madam Feng's mood lifted a bit.

Meanwhile, Feng Jinyao found it difficult to eat. Feng Yunhe had been perfectly fine yesterday. Why was he suddenly ill today? Thinking back to a past life, she couldn't help but worry. This illness might not be simple; they needed to be more cautious.

Soon, they finished breakfast and headed straight to the main house.

On the way, Feng Jinyao whispered a few words to Yunxu.

"Quickly, take this token to Guiyuan Hall and make sure to bring Doctor Zhang back!"

Yunxu was surprised. Why would they need Doctor Zhang at a time like this? Wasn't Eldest Young Master's illness minor?

Seeing Feng Jinyao's serious expression, Yunxu didn't dare delay and immediately replied before rushing off to the Ning'an Courtyard.

Feng Yunhe's room was now crowded with people.

He was sitting on the edge of the bed, his face slightly flushed, appearing weak but still spirited. He addressed Madam Feng, "Grandmother, why did you come? I was planning to come to pay my respects to you later."

"Paying respects? As long as you're safe and sound, Grandmother is happier than eating immortal peaches."

Madam Feng held his little hand, her eyes filled with worry.

"Don't worry, Grandmother. The estate physician checked and said it's nothing serious." Madam Wen was beside Feng Yunhe, wiping his forehead and hands while reassuring Madam Feng.

"He was perfectly fine yesterday... I think after New Year's, I'll go to Fahua Temple and pray for some protective amulets. Otherwise, with both of you, one falling into water and the other catching a chill, it really worries me."

Madam Feng's words didn't concern Feng Hai.

He never believed much in gods and buddhas. Safety wasn't something that could be guaranteed with a piece of paper, but since his wife liked it, he naturally wouldn't argue.

"Alright, listen to Grandmother." Madam Wen paid extra attention to the children's affairs, something she had long planned for. Now that Madam Feng had mentioned it, it was just the right time.

With too many people in the room, it felt crowded. After confirming that Feng Yunhe was fine, Feng Jinxu took Feng Hai and Feng Jinlin to the study. It was time to discuss what Feng Jinyao had mentioned earlier, something he hadn't yet informed his father about.

After the three left, the room became much more spacious.

Madam Feng continued to instruct Madam Wen to take good care of Feng Yunhe. Feng Jinyao looked on, her anxiety becoming more apparent.

Yunxu hurried along, and soon the carriage appeared in front of Guiyuan Hall. It was still early in the day, and the clinic had just opened, coincidentally with Doctor Zhang present today.

When the shopkeeper saw this unfamiliar face about to speak, Junxu loudly shouted, "I want to see Doctor Zhang!"

Although her face showed anxiety, her tone remained calm. Judging by her attire, she was clearly a maid from a wealthy family, so he dared not be rude.

"Miss, what's the matter? Our doctor hasn't arrived yet. Could you please wait a moment?" The shopkeeper stepped forward and said.

Several renowned doctors presided over the clinic, and Doctor Zhang was not one to appear easily. Even though he was inside the pharmacy, the shopkeeper lied and said he wasn't.
