Chapter 176: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 176: Visiting (2)
Xiao Zhu, on the side, was genuinely happy for Aunt Tong. Seeing Aunt Tong's stunned expression, he nudged her, urging, "Aunt Tong, you should agree quickly."
Aunt Tong snapped out of her daze, her eyes turning red. She wiped her eyes with her sleeve and choked up, "Miss Mo, there's no need for so much. Really, if you're willing to offer me stable work despite my old age, that's already a great kindness to the Tong family."
Mo Yan smiled, "Aunt Tong, one tael per month isn't much, especially considering the size of the orchard. Besides, when there's no need to hire people, you'll still have to clean up, which will be tiring."
Xiao Zhu also added a few words of persuasion, and Aunt Tong, with tears in her eyes, finally agreed. However, she still felt uneasy inside, thinking that her labor wasn't worth a tael of silver.
With the matter settled, Aunt Tong hurried to return home. Mo Yan was about to see them off when Xin'er's voice came from outside the door, "Sister, do we have visitors at home?"
As she spoke, Xin'er entered the hall hand in hand with Zhen'er, followed by Li Xiu and her nephew. The four of them had just returned from the embroidery workshop.
"Hello, Brother Xiao Zhu. Greetings, Aunt Tong."
Upon seeing Xiao Zhu and Aunt Tong, Xin'er and Zhen'er quickly greeted them politely.
Aunt Tong looked at the well-behaved siblings and liked them very much. However, as she looked at the delicate and pretty Xin'er, she felt a sense of familiarity. It wasn't just this little girl who looked familiar; even Mo Yan reminded her of someone.
Aunt Tong thought carefully but couldn't figure out who the sisters resembled. It wasn't until they left Mo's house that she suddenly realized and exclaimed with a strange tone, "So it's her!"
Xiao Zhu, beside her, asked innocently, "Aunt Tong, what are you talking about?"
Aunt Tong shook her head absentmindedly and muttered to herself, "It must be just a coincidence!"
Xiao Zhu couldn't understand, so he shook his head and followed her.
Within two days, Aunt Tong and her family moved to the orchard and settled in the two newly built rooms. The two orchards were adjacent, making it very convenient for the Tong family to take care of them.
Aunt Tong was indeed dedicated. After familiarizing herself with the orchard, she suggested to Mo Yan to plant thorns around the perimeter. This would not only maintain the soil but also prevent theft of the fruits when the trees bore fruit in the future.
Mo Yan readily accepted her suggestion and hired many villagers to dig thorns. They densely surrounded the orchard. When the seedlings grew larger, she could release the chickens from her space to roam freely, without worrying about them running away.
Moreover, these thorns were not only planted around the orchard but also around the new house to prevent wild animals and unwanted visitors.
With Aunt Tong and her family taking care of the orchard, Mo Yan became completely hands-off and only occasionally went to water the seedlings with the spiritual spring water. The new house also entered the decoration stage, with fewer things for Mo Qingze to handle, and Mo Yan didn't need to worry.
Furthermore, with the Mo family settling down, those jealous villagers who coveted their wealth had learned their lesson from Wang Dali's experience and didn't dare to have any crooked thoughts. With no troublesome matters, Mo Yan's days passed peacefully and leisurely.
"Yantou, these are the revised blueprints from the carpenter's workshop. Take a look and see if there's anything else that needs to be modified."
Li Zhong took out a stack of blueprints as soon as he returned from the carpenter's workshop and handed them to Mo Yan.
There were about forty or more of these blueprints, all depicting tables, chairs, beds, cabinets, and other furniture designs. The patterns outlined on them were simple and atmospheric, yet not monotonous. Mo Yan carefully looked through them and nodded in satisfaction in the end, "Grandpa Li, these are already very good. Let them follow these blueprints."
