Chapter 20: The Tang Family's Plans
At least, she needed to figure out the reason behind Chu Heng's actions. Perhaps, it wasn't due to his attention.
Chu Ziluo quickly waved her hands "Mother, there's no need for you to accompany me. If I need anything, I'll come back and get it myself."
"Alright." Ye Muyu didn't want to argue with her. This child wasn't avoiding her concern, she was just afraid of angering the original owner like before.
After instructing the two children, Ye Muyu realized that Chu Jin didn't need much preparation but Chu Ziluo lacked a pair of shoes.
Ye Muyu left the east wing room and went straight back to her own house.
The room was a bit dim but fortunately, it wasn't raining at the moment. She found a piece of cloth and wiped away the raindrops on the window. The window was made of wood, giving it a nostalgic touch. However, after being soaked in rain for a long time it was prone to moss and decay.
Ye Muyu first cleaned off the moss and black mold. She left the window half-open and planned to dismantle it later to dry it in the sun when the weather cleared.
While Ye Muyu was tidying up the room, Chu Liushi, who had finished eating, had her daughter-in-law, Zhang, clean the dishes. Chu Liushi had been preoccupied with something and couldn't understand why San'er was so fixated on the idea of a "marital change" as soon as he returned. Could it be that he had found someone outside?
Although she didn't have much knowledge and rarely left the village, she still knew that scholars cared a lot about their reputation. She found it hard to believe that her son would swear off remarrying. He was only in his early twenties and the latter half of his life was still long. Could he really remain unmarried?
She didn't believe it. She suspected that her son had done something wrong.
But after walking around the village for less than half an hour, she heard a lot of gossip from the villagers, causing her eyebrows to furrow. "Third sister-in-law, your scholar wife seems to be getting close to Tang Rou."
"Why do you say that?" Chu Liushi asked casually. She still didn't know what had happened. Initially, she just wanted to listen to some gossip.
"Just today, around noon that Miss Tang and Yunlan entered your courtyard together. I saw that Miss Tang seemed to have some trouble with her dress. That's why I went to inquire about it."
"Originally, near the small bridge at the village entrance your scholar wife went to buy meat this morning. Tang's wife deliberately tore off Tang Rou's dress. I don't know what she wanted to do. Your scholar wife, being kind-hearted brought Tang Rou home."
"But some people also say that the two of them already knew each other perhaps to help Tang Rou escape from her stepmother."
"But when you think about it Tang Wangshi is also ruthless. She deliberately tore Tang Rou's dress in public. It's too damaging to the reputation."
"Wait a minute..." Chu Liushi was confused by the villagers' series of words. How could it be that after just one or two days, something so damaging to her reputation happened? Furthermore, since when did her scholar wife have a good relationship with Tang Rou?
Didn't these villagers have eyes?
Chu Liushi couldn't understand and she wondered if her son had done something to offend others.
Moreover, Tang Rou and her scholar wife were close?
The villagers had to be blind.
Tang Rou was a good-looking girl in the village and Tang Wangshi had been grooming her for a long time, intending to marry her into a better family such as the prestigious Lu family in the county.
The entire Nanchang County had more than ten Tongsheng, and there were only six scholars. Two of them were elderly scholars over fifty years old, not to mention. The remaining four had families and two of them ran schools in the town.
