Chapter 61: The reborn of paranoid boss cannon fodder wife
Chapter 61: What Is He Up To
Grandpa and Grandma have gone to inspect other sand piles. Xiao Wei, being short, couldn't see the ongoing situation, assuming that Xiao Cheng and Bai Lu would follow Grandpa and Grandma. Silently, he hugged his big straw hat and followed them to inspect the sand piles.
Bai Lu immediately loosened her lips, turned her head, and began chewing chestnuts, as if nothing had happened.
Xiao Cheng's deep eyes drooped slightly, and his hand moved behind his back. He casually asked, "Is it delicious?"
Bai Lu responded, "Delicious," but realizing the awkwardness, she shook her head, nodded, and finally earnestly said, "Chestnuts are delicious."
She continued to chew, swallowing too quickly, which led to choking.
"Cough—cough—cough—"
Bai Lu's face turned red, subconsciously pinching her throat with two fingers, attempting to clear the blocked chestnut.
Suddenly, a large hand covered her back, controlling the strength and rhythm, gently patting to ease the discomfort.
At the same time, a sigh with a mix of helplessness and puzzlement sounded in her ear, "Why eat so hurriedly."
Bai Lu: "…"
The chestnut in her throat was cleared.
"Because chestnuts are delicious." She defended herself.
Grandpa and Grandma, who returned from inspecting the chestnut sand piles, nodded approvingly. Grandma said, "Chestnuts are indeed delicious. They don't spoil or get infested even buried in sand for half a year. The flesh is plump, soft, and sweet, making them exceptionally fragrant."
"Down in the mountains, there isn't much farmland, and the rice isn't sufficient. We used to cook chestnuts as meals. Now that chestnuts can be sold, we can buy more rice."
Grandma's eyes lit up, turning to Grandpa, "What do you think? Should we raise some piglets again?"
"Sell chestnuts to Da Zhuang's wife and let Da Zhuang drive to Zhu family village to bring back some piglets for us?"
After thinking for a moment, Grandpa nodded in agreement, "There's pig grass on the mountain. It's not troublesome to raise them."
"Da Zhuang, can you exchange piglets for us?" Grandma looked at "Da Zhuang" with shining eyes.
Grandpa also looked at him.
Their old eyes were filled with anticipation.
Zhu family village was too far from Xiao family village. It took half a day to walk, and driving would be more convenient.
Xiao family village had no trucks. A few years ago, Xiao Guofu's family had a two-eight large pole bicycle. Later, while returning from town, the chain broke, and they had to push it, arriving home only after sunset. They never repaired it.
The village's only small three-wheeler was bought by the village's small grocery store at the beginning of the year, and they cherished it. They wouldn't allow anyone to borrow it to transport piglets, especially with the chaos it might cause.
Grandpa and Grandma could only rely on "Da Zhuang."
Bai Lu felt a bit difficult.
Xiao Cheng didn't want to pull a cart of girls, and on their way here, when they left the town, the girls in the back of the car were so excited about the beautiful scenery of the mountains and rivers that they discussed it animatedly. He frowned and kept honking the horn.
This annoyed Da Zhuang in the front car, thinking he was blocking the way, so he accelerated and sped up.
The whistling wind blew through the back car, making the old people's hair stand up like scarecrows.
Bai Lu felt cold just watching.
With a forced smile, she contributed to the laughter but made sure not to ride in the back.
Da Zhuang finally stopped honking, but now Bai Lu couldn't imagine if they had a cart full of squealing piglets. The big guy might be annoyed and slaughter them right there.
He definitely wouldn't agree to transport piglets.
Bai Lu racked her brain, trying to come up with a solution. Suddenly, a word echoed in her ears, "Okay."
With a light and clear tone, the words were audible to everyone present.
Grandpa and Grandma's faces instantly turned from anticipation to joy, praising "Da Zhuang" as a filial and good child.
Even the silent Xiao Wei looked surprised, thinking that Big Brother was getting obsessed.
While having a heart full of kindness, Bai Lu suggested giving them some rice in addition to piglets, an appropriate quantity for both.
Grandpa and Grandma readily agreed, appreciating the thoughtfulness of the young couple who cared about whether they had food to eat.
They decided to go and discuss the details of purchasing chestnuts with Xiao Cheng and Bai Lu at the homes of the elderly members with many descendants.
During dinner, Xiao Wei was arranged by Xiao Cheng to sit at Bai Lu's table, supposedly to protect her belly.
Sitting beside Bai Lu, Xiao Wei kept a serious face and wanted to cover his ears.
It was an all-female table, and they started chatting incessantly about various things, from the seventh sister's old hen that laid another double-yolked egg yesterday to the neighbor's flower-patterned dog giving birth to cute little puppies. All six of them were to be given away, and by the time they received the news, there was only a doghouse left.
Sighing and lamenting, they started inquiring about whose dog had a big belly, about to give birth…
It was noisy enough to give him a headache.
Unfortunately, Li Shuixian, that woman, was also there.
She was talking animatedly, boasting about how well her candied chestnuts sold. After a few sentences, she began discussing business, asking everyone to sell their chestnuts to her.
She also took the opportunity to criticize the only shop in town that sold fruits and candied chestnuts, saying their candied chestnuts were too dry and hard, bitter and burnt.
Unbelievably, Bai Lu was just laughing and not arguing.
In the war of women, it was truly incomprehensible.
