Chapter 560: Reuniting with Family

Shu Yu sighed, but as she raised her head, she caught sight of a few familiar figures.

Her footsteps halted for a moment before she continued moving forward.

Her mood, however, improved considerably, and a faint smile appeared on her lips, even noticed by Hou Shi.

"What's the matter, Third Miss?" Hou Shi asked. "You seem happier. But we're about to face an uncertain future. What is there to be happy about?"

Shu Yu smiled and replied, "It's nothing."

Well, she had just seen her family, that's all.

Not far away, the Lu family members were equally joyful. They grasped each other's hands with excitement and watched as Shu Yu left the county.

When she was completely out of sight, Lu Erbai said, "Ah Yu has finally arrived safely in Heichang County. Let's go, let's go home. Prepare everything and then go bring her back to live with us."

The Lu family members were now full of energy and spirit. The thought of being reunited as a family soon filled them with high morale, appearing completely different from the people of Heichang County.

Among the crowd, Shu Yu couldn't help but look back again. Even though she couldn't see anything beyond the city gates anymore, knowing that her family was behind her, protecting her all the way, made her feel warm all over.

She lowered her head and glanced at her hand. Yesterday evening, she had already removed the splint and no longer held her right hand up.

After more than ten days, her hand had mostly recovered.

However, she decided to avoid lifting heavy objects for now.

The group walked for another half day, and as they progressed, the surroundings became increasingly desolate and remote. Finally, the leading official stopped.

In front of them was a village, with houses tightly packed together, chaotic and dilapidated. Some houses had even collapsed halfway, presenting a scene of great desolation.

To the left was a manor. Although it didn't look very large, it was much better than these dilapidated mud houses.

They were now standing in front of this manor. Under the eaves outside the manor, there was a table, and someone was sitting behind it, looking at something.

Hearing the commotion, the person raised their head and immediately stood up and ran over. "It's Brother Zou! Did you bring more people here?"

The official smiled and took out the official document from his pocket, handing it over. Then he pointed in the direction of the Shu family and said, "They're from Dong'an Prefecture, a whole family. These are their female relatives; the male members are still on the way and should arrive in about half a month. Help them settle in for now."

The person glanced at the Shu family and said, "The whole family has been exiled?"

The official nodded, and the person understood. This was a group of people without connections, without any backing, and they could be exploited at will.

The official quickly completed the handover and chatted for a few more moments before leaving.

The person left behind cast a glance at the Shu family. When his gaze fell on Shu Yu, it paused for a moment, a smile forming at the corner of his mouth.

Shu Yu was keenly aware of it and furrowed her eyebrows slightly.

The person approached the Shu family and said, "I'm a bailiff from Heichang County. You can call me Master Lan. From now on, I'll be in charge of all of you. Let me first explain the rules here, listen carefully, don't cause any trouble later. You won't be able to get away with it. Understand?"

The Shu family murmured their acknowledgment, and Master Lan glanced at Shu Yu again.

Only then did he continue, "This place is Zhengdao Village, under the jurisdiction of Heichang County in Linzhang Prefecture."

Shu Yu muttered, "...Zhengdao Village? What a name, impressive."
