Chapter 11: Tax Exemption
Ye Muyu called out, "Ziluo."
"Mother, what's the matter?" Chu Ziluo had just changed her shoes and come out of the house. Upon hearing Ye Muyu's call, she quickly walked over.
Ye Muyu stood up. "Stay at home and watch your brother. If he doesn't study, I'll go tell your father. I'm going to buy some meat."
"Buy meat?" Chu Ziluo couldn't help but swallow.
Ye Muyu found all the money left by Ye, totaling about ten or so taels. While it wasn't enough for meat every day, having it every few days was still feasible.
She didn't want to explain too much. Carrying a basket, she left.
Xingshui Village was very close to Nanchang County, with many residents. The conditions were good, and the bridge was well-built. Two rivers ran along the edges, and many women washed clothes on the stone steps beside the river.
Ye Muyu walked out and realized that Nanchang County should belong to the area of Jiangnan Water Town. Unfortunately, the original owner had never traveled far and she didn't know the specific geographical boundaries, only that this dynasty was called Da Chu.
Looking at the development of this era, it seemed different from any dynasty in her previous life. It indicated that the history of this world was different from what she knew.
Ye Muyu walked to the village entrance to buy pork.
When she crossed the bridge, she accidentally bumped into a few women.
The woman in the front wearing a green jacket stopped when she saw Ye Muyu and warmly reached out to link her arm.
"Isn't this the wife of the scholar?"
"I'm Mrs. Zhao. Don't you remember? We met at your sister-in-law's house before."
Ye Muyu recognized the other party, a well-known matchmaker in the nearby villages. They had encountered each other because of the matchmaking for Chu Qingxiang's daughter.
Ye Muyu took a step back without leaving a trace, her face wearing a faint smile. "So it's Mrs. Zhao. I see you're in a good mood today. You must have good news."
"Exactly! I found a good match for your niece. He's also a scholar and passed the exam this year." Mrs. Zhao said in a hushed voice.
The nearby women overheard and expressed some envy. "Mrs. Zhao, such a good young man, why didn't you introduce him to my daughter?"
"Don't tease me. Isn't your daughter still too young?" Mrs. Zhao didn't buy it, thinking of an opportunity to deal with the not-so-clever Mrs. Scholar and to get involved in the matter of the newly added tax-exempt fertile land this year.
"Wait, didn't Mrs. Scholar say that her niece is young?" Mrs. Zhao widened her eyes and couldn't help muttering, "Could there be conflicts between the couple? This sounds like a joke..."
