 Chapter 192: Approaching Loss

Just as Li Shi finished speaking, Liang Shi hurriedly interjected, "Count me in! I can also make clothes." Ruan Shi forced a smile. Indeed, they knew how to make clothes, but their skills were limited to making functional garments. Making exquisite and beautiful clothes was simply impossible for them. She glanced at the two sisters-in-law and hesitantly spoke in a low voice, "Well, you're both busy with household matters. How can I trouble you? If I make clothes, I have to stay in the county town and can't go back every day." Li Shi frowned, "You can't go back? It doesn't matter where you make the clothes. It's not like they're precious items. If you're worried about them getting dirty, just wash them when you're done." Ruan Shi suddenly understood the feeling of talking to someone who doesn't understand a word you're saying. She had clearly refused, and their family's clothes were indeed quite precious. A good piece of fabric alone could cost several taels of silver. When she made clothes for herself, she would trim her nails, apply hand cream, keep the table tidy, and maintain a clean room, free from any disturbances. It was something her whole family valued, so she couldn't be casual about it. Li Shi was about to say something more when the old lady walked over and glared at Li Shi and Liang Shi, "With your clumsy hands, what good clothes could you possibly make? Let me tell you, don't you dare touch the clothes in the second shop, or I'll chop off your hands." Both of them shrank back in fear. The old lady then glared at Ruan Shi, "Hiring people for the shop is Ah Yu's responsibility. If you come across anyone wanting to work, tell them to find Ah Yu directly. Let me tell you, if you dare interfere and slow down Ah Yu's work, you better leave early." Ruan Shi quickly shook her head, "I definitely won't slow her down." Just then, Lu Erbai called out, "Mother, it's time." It was time for the grand opening. The old lady quickly tidied up some clothes and hurriedly walked towards the entrance of the shop. Lu Erbai stood by the side, leaning on the door frame with a cane, one hand holding the end of a red cloth. The red cloth covered the signboard on top of the shop. Lu Erbai looked slightly excited as he glanced at his family. After a moment, he took a deep breath and said to Shu Yu, "Light it up." Shu Yu held a matchstick and lit the firecrackers that had already been set up. In an instant, crackling sounds filled the air, and Da Ya, along with Da Hu and San Ya, hurriedly ran into the shop for cover. Lu Erbai looked up and forcefully pulled down with his right hand, abruptly unveiling the red cloth, revealing the characters on the signboard—Yiren Pavilion. "By the water's edge stands the person they call her" Shu Yu felt that such a sentiment was quite good, simple and easy to understand, and reading it was also elegant. After the firecrackers were set off, quite a few people were attracted by the commotion, especially some children who were curious and ran over laughing and joking. However, nobody went inside; they just stood outside, observing. The entrance to the Yiren Pavilion was spacious, and even from outside, one could see the scene inside. So the crowd quickly realized that it was a ready-to-wear shop, but not one with many clothes. They immediately lost interest. Li Shi and Liang Shi whispered to each other, "Why hasn't anyone come in? It's so quiet on the opening day, doesn't seem like they're here to make money." Liang Shi was quite worried. She actually hoped that the second family would make money because she was hoping to get some benefits from it. Li Shi gloated, "The commotion earlier was so big, it looks like they're going to lose money." (End of this chapter)
