Chapter 188: Your Mother, the Stingy One
Chapter 188: Your Mother, the Stingy One
San Ya hesitated for a moment, then vigorously shook her little head. "I don't want it, I have one." Shu Yu also chimed in, "Eating too many hawthorns is not good for your stomach. One skewer is enough. Dad, you should keep it for yourself." Upon hearing that it was not good for her health, Lu Er Bai didn't insist any further. He simply patted his youngest daughter's head and smiled as he watched her joyfully eating. On their way back, Shu Yu bought a lot of things. Once she had money in hand, she couldn't restrain her shopping desires. Lu Erbai tried to advise her several times, but he couldn't dissuade her. Fortunately, the things she bought weren't expensive. They were just some small snacks, obviously intended to be shared with everyone when they returned. When the mule cart stopped at the entrance of Liu Fang Lane, the old lady and the others had already prepared the vegetables and cooked the meal, waiting for them to come back. San Ya took another skewer of sugar-coated haws from Lu Er Bai and ran inside after getting off the cart. "Big Brother, here's something delicious for you." Da Hu was busy sweeping the floor when he heard the voice. He suddenly raised his head, and then a string of brightly colored sugar-coated haws appeared right in front of his eyes. Da Hu froze and looked at San Ya across from him. The latter tilted her head, eating her own skewer while offering the one in her hand forward. "Here, Big Brother. Second Sister bought it. Each of us has one. It's so delicious." Da Hu's eyes sparkled, and he quickly accepted it. The two siblings smiled at each other, facing each other, biting into the sugar-coated haws while laughing. Shu Yu chuckled at the scene. The world of children was indeed easily satisfied. Having a skewer of sugar-coated haws was like having everything. Shu Yu shared the remaining sugar-coated haws, and Da Niu hesitantly touched his head. "Do I get one too?" Da Niu didn't plan to go back today to avoid the trouble of coming back tomorrow. However, he wouldn't be staying here tonight either. After dinner, he would go sleep at the shop. These days he had been busy running around with them. Shu Yu's intention was that although he was a cousin, she didn't want him to work for nothing. He should receive some wages after all. The old lady agreed with her idea, but Da Niu disagreed. The old lady scolded him a few times. "You'll be getting married at the end of the year. Your mother is so stingy. If you don't save some money, in the future, if your wife wants to buy something to eat or use, would she have to use her dowry?" Da Niu instantly thought of Da Ya's situation and shook his head. "Of course not." The old lady then slapped a string of copper coins into his hand, causing his palm to turn red. "Since you understand, then you have to plan for yourself. After you get married, you and your wife will be a separate little family. You are the man, and you have to provide support for your wife. Money is the most practical thing. Do you understand?" Da Niu hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to accept the string of copper coins. The old lady was finally satisfied and said, "At least our family's eldest grandson hasn't been turned into a foolishly filial wooden-headed person by your mother." Referring to his own mother, Da Niu could only chuckle and didn't dare to argue much. The old lady then sent him back to his room to sleep. After Da Niu left, Shu Yu took out the money earned from selling the scar removal ointment formula. "Perfect timing. Before the store opens tomorrow, let's settle our accounts and keep track of our earnings. It's good to have an idea of how much we've made." Looking at the silver notes on the table, both the old lady and Ruan Shi felt their perspectives shattering. Did Ah Yu really earn one hundred and fifty taels of silver in one trip? Could it be that they had seen too little of the world and didn't know that there were so many wealthy people nowadays? (End of this chapter)
Its ok not to know, now can be the rich and wealthy is not far off
ReplyDeleteSad but yes you've just been very ignorant, not really your fault the system is made to keep people ignorant and hold up the status of the wealthy and not everyone is talented enough or lucky enough to rise above that.
ReplyDeleteAlso this grandma really is quite a nice person with a big perspective, it's so rare to see older female characters in chinese series and even more so in chinese series set in ancient settings thinking about women.
DeleteComment last chapter made me realize that her parents really got kicked to the curb. When was the last time the mothers name was even mentioned? Poor woman was ignored and mistreated not only by her mother, but now by the Author!
