Chapter 190: She is Very Clever

The embroidery girl Shu Yu wanted was not an ordinary one who only knew how to embroider handkerchiefs. At the very least, she should have the skill to independently embroider screens. Such an embroidery girl cannot be cultivated in an ordinary rural family. Shu Yu decided to ask Miss Ding if she had any suitable candidates. After discussing the matter of hiring someone, Shu Yu's gaze fell on Da Hu's head. Da Hu and San Ya were sitting on the steps by the door. The old lady thought the two children were too young and didn't want them to go outside and leak any information. So she didn't let them hear the conversation about counting the money. The two children were slowly nibbling on candied haws. They had already eaten two of them and didn't want to eat too quickly. They put the sweet treats aside and planned to enjoy them after dinner. When Shu Yu's gaze fell on the door, everyone else also turned their heads to look. Da Hu suddenly felt a shiver down his spine and inexplicably felt a burning sensation on his back. He asked San Ya in a low voice, "Sister, do you ever feel like someone is watching us?" San Ya shook her head and stuffed the remaining half of the candied haw into her mouth. Her cheeks puffed up, and she shook her head, "No, I feel really happy right now. One candied haw, two candied haws, three... I still have three left. Brother, you have five left. How about you give me one so we'll have the same amount?" She was truly clever. Da Hu quietly looked at his younger sister. "I really feel like someone is watching me." "I don't think so." However, San Ya seemed to immediately think of something and became nervous. "Is someone trying to kidnap you again? In that case, quickly hide yourself. Give me the candied haws, I'll hold them for you." Da Hu: Do you really think you're hiding your intentions well? Shu Yu was amused by the two of them. She waved at them, "Da Hu, San Ya, come here, I have something to say." The two immediately turned around and ran into the house. Shu Yu pulled Da Hu over and said to the others in the room, "I want to find a school for Da Hu and let him study." Everyone was stunned. Study...? "Da Hu shook his head repeatedly, 'Second Sister, I don't want to study.' Shu Yu looked at him firmly, 'Da Hu, you have to go and study. Even if you don't like it, Second Sister hopes you will go. Second Sister doesn't need you to consider fame and achievements, but reading, literacy, and manners are the basics. In the future, our shop will grow bigger and bigger. As the owner, isn't it embarrassing to be illiterate? If you don't study, you won't even know how to do the accounts or sign contracts without being cheated. The shop we've just opened will have to close before long.' Da Hu widened his eyes. He didn't dislike studying. Besides his family, the person he admired the most was Tang Xiucai, the only scholar in their village. But he had never thought about studying, considering their family... ''But I heard studying costs a lot of money.'' ''Our family has already opened a shop. Investing in your education is worth it.'' Lu Er Bai clenched his fist, looking serious and solemn. ''Yes, Da Hu, you must study.'' Da Hu looked around and saw everyone nodding. He suddenly felt excited. ''Then, I will study. I want to become the top scholar.'' ''Our Da Hu has ambition,'' the old lady said happily. Shu Yu glanced at the envious San Ya and said, ''Unfortunately, we don't have a girls' academy here. Da Hu, when you come back from studying, you have to teach your sister how to read, understand?'' (End of this chapter)

  1. Indeed most schools were just for boys for a long time and women weren't allowed to study, then some emperor or something wanted his daughter to study so he made schools just for women, reason they couldn't just go to regular school is cuz women and men couldn't mix to avoid rumors and tarnishing womens virtue and also cuz china has always been against women haha.
