Chapter 170: Da Ya has a New Good Friend Seeing Meng Yunzheng's lack of response, Xiang Weinan continued, "Do you think we can learn something about the Shu family from Miss Lu?" Meng Yunzheng shook his head. Xiang Weinan huffed and walked away, saying, "You really think you're mute." In the room, only Meng Yunzheng and Zhao Xi, who had finished gnawing on the chicken leg, remained. Zhao Xi wiped his hands and asked, "How long do you think it will take for Miss Lu, being so smart and capable, to figure out that we're pretending?" Meng Yunzheng gave him a sidelong glance and walked away. Shu Yu was still unaware of the high opinion Zhao Xi had of her. When she returned to the shop, she saw Da Ya chatting with someone. She initially thought it was a customer, but upon closer look, wasn't that... Miss Wei? Wei Lan also noticed her and waved her hand, calling out, "Ah Yu." Shu Yu stumbled for a moment. Ah Yu? When did they become so familiar? They had only met once before. She walked over and smiled at Wei Lan, saying, "Miss Wei, why did you come here?" "I searched for this place for two days and finally found it. I didn't expect to see Da Ya as soon as I arrived. I found out that Da Ya is your sister, so we had a chat. I feel much better now." Although Wei Lan had also experienced a divorce, her situation was different from Da Ya's. Da Ya had visibly suffered so much, and the Zhang family was known to be wicked. So people sympathized with and pitied Da Ya. Even if Zhang Shu became disabled, most believed he deserved it as retribution. Wei Lan, however, had a different situation. She had been married to Zhou Jian for a short time and hadn't suffered much or faced any hardships. Moreover, her family was influential and had many strong siblings, while Zhou Jian was an orphan with no powerful backing. The neighbors and locals believed that after their marriage, it was Zhou Jian who had an unhappy life. Now, seeing Wei Lan without any problems while Zhou Jian was left half-dead and turned into a disabled mute, people started to see him as the one who had suffered a loss. Of course, no one would say anything to Wei Lan since her family's siblings were not to be trifled with. However, the way people looked at her made Wei Lan feel resentful. She was the true victim, but now it seemed like she was the one at fault. Wei Lan didn't want to stay at home and decided to go out for some fresh air. After meeting Da Ya, she felt even more grateful for her own luck. It had only been two days, and she couldn't bear the strange gazes from people. Yet Da Ya had endured two years of being pointed at and ridiculed. People said she couldn't bear children, and she had suffered silently while being mistreated by her in-laws. When Wei Lan thought about the day she hadn't caught Zhou Jian's affair, she feared that in two years' time, she would end up in the same situation. At that point, she might not even survive a single day. Fortunately, now they were both free from their respective hardships. "Ah Yu." Da Ya called out to Shu Yu, "You mentioned before that you wanted to decorate the shop with a few pots of flowers. Wei Lan said there's a neighbor next to her who has many beautiful flowers. I want to go and take a look. If they seem suitable, I'll buy a few pots to bring back." She was very enthusiastic, and Shu Yu had no objections. "Sure, it's a good idea for you to go and check. Just make sure they're not too complicated and have a light and refreshing scent." Da Ya nodded eagerly, "Okay, we'll go now." She got up and was about to follow Wei Lan out. They seemed to have been chatting for quite some time and had become familiar with each other. Shu Yu lowered her head to fetch some silver, "Here, I'll give you one or two taels of silver first. If it's not enough, you can..." Da Ya had already run off, "No need, I have my own." (End of this chapter)

  2. I'm glad Da Ya is opening up .... sigh she's a stupid naive and kind girl but I can't really blame her too badly I guess, we are in rural china in ancient times, not like people had many opportunities to go out and explore the world or get to know it at least through the internet and such, she was a good person in a good family and as a woman could just listen to her husband when she left and had no support, hopefully she can now experience the world and grow.
