Chapter 163: Don't Kill Me
Chapter 163: Don't Kill Me
After the clothing shop opened, Lu Erbai and the others would come to help. Initially, Grandma said she wouldn't come to the county town and would stay home to take care of San Ya and Da Hu. She told Shu Yu not to spend money on renting a house. But now that Da Ya and Li were at home, and Grandma realized that Da Ya was skilled in making clothes and would be a great help, she changed her mind and agreed to come to the county town to assist.
Shu Yu had become quite familiar with the county town during this period. After much consideration, she concluded that the best location to rent a house was near where Meng Yunzheng lived. So Shu Yu planned to find a place to rent in that area for now and buy a house later when she had enough money. She would have the money tomorrow when she sold the scar-removing ointment formula to Doctor Xu, which would bring in a considerable income.
Thinking about this, Shu Yu felt delighted and spoke to the cat in her arms, "When we have money in the future, I'll get you your own house, and you can live like a rich cat. How does that sound?"
Meow...
Shu Yu stroked its head and said, "I can tell you're excited."
Walking past the county government office with the cat, Shu Yu glanced up at it. There were still a few solemn-looking soldiers guarding the entrance, but there were fewer onlookers compared to yesterday.
Shu Yu didn't pay much attention and continued walking.
However, she overheard the conversation of two townspeople as they passed by. "Even people from the Ding family were summoned. Early this morning, I heard that Master Ding was taken to the county government office for questioning. Apart from the household servants responsible for purchasing goods, all the masters of the family had to stay in the mansion."
"It's not just the Ding family, the Jiang family as well. The well-known wealthy households and gentry in our county town have all been summoned for questioning."
Shu Yu suddenly snapped back to reality. So that's why Ding Yuehua didn't come today. Something happened to the county magistrate, and the whole town would be in turmoil. The Ding family must not get into trouble; she had just secured her first customer.
Shu Yu silently prayed for a while.
The two townspeople continued, "This is strange. Why would the county magistrate summon all the wealthy households in the county town for questioning?"
"I heard that the person who escaped yesterday hasn't been caught yet. Haven't you noticed that the city gates are still closed? I guess the magistrate suspects that these wealthy families have some connection and wants to investigate who had close relations with the former county magistrate."
After their conversation, the two people left.
Shu Yu stood still, gazing in the direction of the city gates. The gates were still closed, but they probably wouldn't remain closed for long; otherwise, chaos would ensue.
She glanced once more at the entrance of the county government office and hastened her steps, heading towards the courtyard where Meng Yunzheng resided.
With the cat in her arms, she reached the courtyard gate and was about to knock when the door swung open.
Shu Yu took a step forward. "Young Master Meng? Are you here?"
As she spoke, she saw a person standing inside the courtyard. In the corner of the courtyard lay Doctor Zhao, with someone holding a knife to his throat.
Shu Yu's pupils constricted, and she felt someone else behind her. A dagger pressed against her neck.
Shu Yu almost instinctively tried to fight back, but when she saw Zhao being held captive, she calmed down and stopped her actions.
However, her grip on the dagger loosened slightly, and the lucky cat in her arms slipped to the ground and scurried away.
Fortunately, the assailant didn't pay any attention to the lucky cat and ignored Shu Yu. They escorted her forward a few steps and then closed the courtyard gate.
Shu Yu pursed her lips, wearing a fearful expression as she asked, "Who are you? What do you want? I don't know you. Please don't kill me."
