Chapter 157: Fortune Cat
Chapter 157: Fortune Cat
Shu Yu looked up at the county government office once again and walked away with a basket in her hand.
The county magistrate of Jiangyuan County had been arrested, and she had no idea who the new magistrate would be.
Hopefully, the new magistrate would be someone easy to get along with and who would work for the people.
As Shu Yu thought to herself, she arrived at the entrance of the shop. Zheng Gong, seeing that she had brought a cat back with her, was quite surprised. "Why are you thinking of keeping a cat again? If you're going to keep one, get a bigger one. This one is so small, it can't even catch mice."
In the eyes of ordinary people, cats are kept to catch mice, and dogs are kept to guard the house.
They were all common folks, who wouldn't consider cats and dogs as pets? Only those wealthy families' ladies would have the leisure to play with cats and dogs.
Obviously, the Lu family did not belong to the wealthy class.
But Shu Yu smiled and said, "Every time I encounter a fortune cat, something good happens. It's my lucky star. Whether it can catch mice or not is not important. What matters is that it's now the shop's mascot."
Well, from now on, this cat shall be called the Fortune Cat, hoping that it will bring some fortune.
Zheng Gong burst into laughter. "The shop's mascot. Boss, don't blame me for not reminding you. You sell clothes in this shop. If you keep a cat here, its claws might accidentally ruin your clothes. Then you'll be in tears."
Shu Yu sighed, "..."
Oh no, she had forgotten about that.
Shu Yu lowered her head and stared at Fortune Cat.
Fortune Cat's eyes were watery, looking as if it was about to be abandoned again.
Shu Yu admitted defeat. "I'll think of a solution. I can't just throw it out to be a stray cat again."
After exchanging a few more words with Zheng Gong, Shu Yu carried the basket and headed to the backyard.
In the evening, Zheng Gong finished his work and went back home. "We'll come back tomorrow to check again and see what else needs to be repaired. After that, we can tidy up and it will be good to go."
Shu Yu stood at the entrance of the shop and nodded. "Thank you for your hard work, Zheng Gong."
"It's no trouble at all," Zheng Gong replied, actually quite happy. He didn't have many jobs to take on, and renovating Shu Yu's shop was a significant project for him.
In the past few days, while they were working, several people had come by to take a look and inquire about the shop's situation.
Shu Yu instructed Zheng Gong to be honest with them, and he didn't hold back.
Interestingly, as those people asked questions, they also observed Zheng Gong's work. Seeing his carefulness, smooth communication, and efficient and beautiful craftsmanship, they immediately struck two business deals on the spot.
This was an unexpected stroke of luck for Zheng Gong.
So he felt grateful to Shu Yu. "I'll take my leave now. Remember to lock the door and don't open it randomly."
"Okay." Shu Yu watched Zheng Gong leave before locking the door and heading to have her dinner.
She was already familiar with this area. There weren't many simple eateries around, but there were quite a few high-end restaurants.
She only had a simple meal and walked a bit farther away.
When she returned, she noticed two people standing at the entrance of her shop.
Narrowing her eyes, she could tell that they were a master and servant, both looking up and frowning as they observed her shop.
Shu Yu approached them, about to ask what they were looking for when she heard the maid say, "Miss, this shop hasn't even opened yet. It doesn't even have a signboard. Did we get the wrong place?"
"No. 78 Ning Shui Street, that's correct."
The maid glanced at the shop's address and confirmed that it was correct. "But I just asked the owner of the neighboring shop, and they said this is a ready-to-wear clothing store. They've been renovating it these past few days. It doesn't match what's written on paper at all. It's deceiving people."
