Chapter 611: There's a Doctor in My Family
Shu Yu stood behind the official, smiling and saying, "We're lucky to have accidentally stumbled upon this deer."
The official raised an eyebrow. Lucky? Perhaps not.
He crouched down to examine the wounds on the deer, confirming that it was indeed an arrow injury. The same was true for the other wild chickens and rabbits—they were all shot with arrows, except for one whose neck seemed to have been twisted.
The official felt the need to reassess these two individuals.
However, the deer was quite fat. The official nodded and stood up, saying, "Indeed, not bad. Alright, bring these things inside. You've completed today's task."
"Yes." Shu Yu and Fang Xiyue carried the game into the manor.
The official checked again and brought out the ration they were entitled to for the day.
In addition, they were given the three wild chickens.
Shu Yu was somewhat surprised. She thought having just one would be good enough.
The official coughed lightly and explained, "You brought back a deer, which already counts as completing today's labor. These three chickens are what you deserve. Keep up the good work and bring back more game tomorrow."
Three black lines appeared on Shu Yu's forehead. Was he expecting them to bring back two deer tomorrow?
She nodded with a smile on her face, holding the rations and three wild chickens, and bid farewell as she left.
It was only after they left the manor that Fang Xiyue, with an excited expression, looked at the chickens and exclaimed, "I didn't expect this many."
Shu Yu raised the chickens in her hands; they were quite heavy.
She said to Fang Xiyue, "Three chickens, let's split them—one and a half for each of us, how about that?"
"No, no, I don't need that many. You hunted them all, including the deer that you shot with an arrow. You should have two, and I'll take one," Fang Xiyue quickly refused, waving her hands. "Besides, there are only three people in our family. Didn't you say you have a large family? One and a half won't be enough for you."
It was definitely enough, but dividing half a chicken back and forth would be troublesome.
After thinking for a moment, Shu Yu suggested, "How about this, I won't give you half a chicken. Instead, I'll exchange it for something else. What do you need?"
"No need. You gave me a big rice ball for lunch," Fang Xiyue replied.
"No, that won't do. We hunted so many animals today, and it's the result of our teamwork. Although I shot the arrows, without you, I wouldn't have been able to find the game. If I take more than half a chicken, I'll feel guilty," Shu Yu said seriously, as if she suddenly remembered something. "Didn't you say your father is seriously injured and bedridden? Well, in that case, my family happens to have a doctor. I can ask him to take a look at your father and prescribe some medicine. Consider the half chicken as a reward."
Fang Xiyue's footsteps, who had been walking ahead, abruptly stopped. She looked at Shu Yu in astonishment and stammered, "You, you, you said you have a doctor in your family?"
"Yes."
Fang Xiyue immediately grabbed her hand and said, "Okay, okay, let him check on my father. My father's periods of unconsciousness are getting longer, and I'm really afraid he won't hold on much longer."
Fang Xiyue couldn't possibly refuse the exchange condition
proposed by Shu Yu. As long as her father could be cured, even if Shu Yu took all the chickens, she would gladly accept it.
Their family had also considered finding a doctor to treat Fang Xiyue's father, but they had no money or food, and more importantly... there were no reliable doctors in Zhengdao Village.
