Chapter 16: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 16: Business Deal (Part 1)
The next day, as usual, Mo Yan brought her basket of vegetables to the market to sell. Just as she had sold about half of them, an unexpected guest arrived.
"Need a large quantity of vegetables?"
Looking at the old man in front of her who smiled like Maitreya Buddha and claimed to be the manager of Xiangmanlou, Mo Yan narrowed her eyes. She hadn't figured out how to push the vegetables to the restaurant yet, but unexpectedly, someone came to her door today.
"Manager Wang, I still have to sell vegetables. How about this, you go back first, and after I finish selling these vegetables, I'll go to Xiangmanlou to find you. It's chaotic on the street, not a good place to talk," Mo Yan suggested.
Manager Wang, seeing that Mo Yan wasn't willing to drop everything and go with him immediately, didn't get angry. He remained cheerful and said, "That's reasonable. I'll go back now. Miss, after you finish your business, be sure to come to Xiangmanlou."
Mo Yan saw Manager Wang's attitude and felt that he was quite nice. So she smiled and agreed to visit Xiangmanlou later.
Manager Wang was also busy. After getting a definite answer, he didn't stay any longer and left with his two subordinates.
"Child, you're really lucky! Xiangmanlou is the biggest restaurant in this town. Selling vegetables to them is much better than selling them here for a month!" the old woman exclaimed excitedly, genuinely happy for Mo Yan.
Mo Yan smiled at the old woman but didn't feel particularly happy in her heart. While it was indeed a big business deal, making money was good for their family, and they wouldn't have to sleep on the streets when they reached the capital. However, the variety of vegetables in her space was too limited. Xiangmanlou wouldn't just buy these few types, and even if variety wasn't an issue, she still had to figure out how to safely transport the vegetables without arousing any suspicion!
After hesitating for a while, Mo Yan couldn't be bothered to think about it anymore and continued to greet customers. Before long, the basket of vegetables was sold out. She was supposed to help the old woman sell pears, but the old woman insisted that she go and take care of important matters, refusing to let her help again.
Mo Yan was helpless and could only carry the worn-out basket. With the guidance of passersby, she made her way to Xiangmanlou.
Perhaps because she had been announced, the waiter in the hall heard that she was looking for Manager Wang and immediately warmly led her to where Manager Wang was on the second floor.
Manager Wang was doing accounts. When he saw Mo Yan, he put down the account book and smiled like a chrysanthemum. After asking her to sit down, he instructed the waiter to serve tea and snacks.
"Manager Wang, please don't stand on ceremony. You're busy with many things, so let's talk business first!" Sitting down opposite Manager Wang, Mo Yan didn't have much interest in small talk and went straight to the point with a smile.
Manager Wang was slightly taken aback. He didn't expect this young girl to be so straightforward, but he could only go along with her words. "Uh, it's like this. Originally, we had fixed vegetable suppliers at Xiangmanlou, so we didn't need to buy vegetables from outside. However, our supplier ran into some trouble recently and couldn't continue to supply us. That's why we found you and hope that you can supply vegetables to Xiangmanlou on a long-term basis. I wonder if you're interested?"
Xiangmanlou, in just a few years, had surpassed several old restaurants and become the largest restaurant in town, so every aspect had to be considered. Among them, the source of vegetables was crucial. In order to maintain the quality of vegetables, the designated vegetable suppliers for Xiangmanlou had to be able to supply all kinds of vegetables. Of course, there were downsides to this approach. Once the vegetable supplier couldn't provide vegetables, the restaurant had to find another stable and reliable supplier, which was not an easy task.
The restaurant attached great importance to the quality of vegetables. Recently, they had been collecting vegetables bit by bit from the market, which was not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also resulted in lower quality. Therefore, when Manager Wang heard that his subordinates had found someone selling vegetables on the market that were even better than what the previous supplier provided, he couldn't help but take the initiative to approach them.
