Chapter 342: the Enemy of the Entire Hou Family

Hou Yirong's serious attitude puzzled Nicholas.

He couldn't understand why they were so opposed, considering that it was just a formality that wouldn't cost the Hou family anything. The vampire souls wouldn't harm Hou Yunjiao, and the Borin family would even provide a profitable business opportunity. Whatever the reason, he wasn't prepared to invite trouble.

He reached out and put his arm around Hou Yirong's shoulder, a smile playing on his deep and handsome features, as he assured her, "There won't be a next time."

"Haha..." Hou Yirong's face was full of mockery. "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking. Once your sister gets involved with my third brother, who knows if the vampire souls will harm him? No one can say for sure. When it comes to my third brother's safety, the Hou family cannot afford any accidents. You must understand that anyone or any force that poses a threat to my third brother's safety is an enemy of the entire Hou family."

Nicholas casually replied, "It's not that serious. The Borin family's wizards have investigated, and the vampire souls can't harm someone who carries the aura of an emperor and possesses an extraordinary destiny."

Hou Yirong looked at him coldly. "Are you sure it won't harm him at all?"

That was indeed something that couldn't be guaranteed. The Borin family didn't have absolute certainty either, and Nicholas fell into silence.

Hou Yirong pulled away from him and asked coldly, "Are you leaving now, or are you waiting until tomorrow?"

Nicholas turned around, his gaze sweeping over the people he had brought with him, briefly pausing on a tall figure. He pursed his lips and said to Huo Yirong, "Tomorrow then, let us stay here for the night."

Hou Yirong replied, "I haven't prepared rooms for you. If you want to stay, you'll have to arrange it yourself."

Nicholas patted Hou Yirong's shoulder. "Thanks, bro!"

Hou Yirong skillfully evaded and warned him, "Stay away from my third brother."

Nicholas replied, "Got it, got it."

Hou Yirong assigned Hou Chuan to accompany Nicholas and his group, specifically instructing him to arrange lodgings for the Borin family away from Hou Yunjiao and Qin Ruan's rooms.

Hou Chuan received the order and led the group away.

Hou Yirong stood on the deck, coldly looking at Josh. "Did you figure anything out?"

Josh shook his head in confusion, then hesitated and nodded.

He felt it was quite unbelievable that someone would target his third cousin.

Everyone in the Hou family, including his mother, regarded his third cousin as precious as a pearl, even more delicate than a princess in ancient times.

His third cousin was clearly a ferocious demon king even more ruthless than his second cousin, but in their eyes, he was weak and fragile.

If his maternal grandfather, first uncle, second uncle, and even his mother found out that someone dared to scheme against his third cousin, it would be chaos in the Hou family.

Hou Yirong raised an eyebrow, his gaze softening a bit as he stared at Josh's eyes. He asked, "Have you figured it out?"

Josh replied, "Second cousin, you're planning to keep it a secret from our maternal grandfather, first uncle, second uncle, and the Borin family's plot against our third cousin, based on your long-standing relationship with Nicholas

"No, I swear on my conscience I didn't snitch!"

Josh looked completely aggrieved as he avoided the aggressor.

Hou Yirong's face was fierce, his gaze chilling as he stared at Josh, a sinister smile playing at the corners of his lips. "So, you're threatening me?"

"No, absolutely not!" Josh shook his head incessantly.

He wouldn't admit it even if he were beaten to death, but he did have something in mind.

Huo Yirong snorted coldly, his gaze shifting slightly to Qin Mei, who was contemplating nearby.

"What did Second Young Master Qin notice?"

Qin Mei, upon hearing the question, pointed at himself. "Me?"

"Yes."

Hou Yirong's voice carried a weary laziness.

Qin Mei wore an insolent expression, a rare trace of solemnity appearing on his face.

After giving it some thought, he spoke in a low voice, "I feel something's off about that Nicholas, the young master. He must have some ulterior motive for staying."

Hou Yirong, upon hearing this, showed some interest on his face. "How did you figure that out?"

Qin Mei frowned. "I can't quite put my finger on it. It's just a feeling that something's not right. I examined the bodyguards he brought three times and didn't find anything suspicious, but it's just a sense I have."

Hou Yirong praised, "Second Young Master Qin, you have sharp eyes."

Qin Mei modestly waved his hand. "Oh, I just don't like him. I can't stand the thought of him trying to steal my sister and my future brother-in-law, so I've been keeping an eye on him."

Hou Yirong was delighted by his pure attitude, a smile from the depths of his heart appearing in his eyes and brows.

"Don't worry, Third Brother won't let our sister down. Don't think too much."

He walked up and patted Qin Mei's shoulder, then said to him and Josh, "Both of you should go back and rest early. Try not to leave your rooms if you hear any noises tonight."

Josh hesitated and asked, "Second Cousin, will there be any danger tonight?"

Hou Yirong stroked his blond hair and reassured him, "It's hard to say, but try not to leave your room."

Josh clung to his arm, his tone determined. "Then I want to stay with you!"

Hou Yirong raised an eyebrow. "Are you worried about me or just eager to see the excitement?"

Josh didn't dare to say both and looked at Hou Yirong with pleading eyes.

Hou Yirong pulled Josh's hand off his arm. "Go back and rest early. I'll go find your Third Cousin." He walked away without looking back.

As soon as he left, Josh and Qin Mei's expressions instantly changed.

They looked at each other, a gleam of excitement shining in their eyes.

Josh squinted his eyes, a mischievous expression on his face, and raised his chin at Qin Mei. "Hmm?"

Qin Mei, also brimming with curiosity, nodded vigorously. "Hmm!"

They didn't know what kind of game they were playing, but they smiled at each other as if they had made some secret agreement.

.....

Hou Yirong arrived at the door of the room where Hou Yunjiao and Qin Ruan lived.

"Knock, knock—"

He raised his hand and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?"

Qin Ruan's voice came from inside the door.

"It's me, little sister. Is the third brother asleep?"

Just as Hou Yirong asked, someone opened the door from inside.

Qin Ruan had clearly taken a bath, wearing comfortable home clothes and drying her hair.

She stepped aside to let Huo Yirong enter: "The third master is taking a shower. You can go in and wait for him."

"Is it convenient?" Hou Yirong didn't go in but instead stared at Qin Ruan.

The young girl looked even more tender in her comfortable home clothes.

Although she had already passed her twentieth birthday, she still looked so young that it was no wonder people would misunderstand.

"There's no inconvenience. Come in."

These words weren't spoken by Qin Ruan but by Hou Yunjiao, who had already walked out of the bathroom inside the house.

Upon hearing his voice, Hou Yirong calmly stepped into the room.

Hou Yunjiao had neat and dry hair, wearing comfortable pajamas similar to Qin Ruan's.

He sat inside the room, picked up the tablet on the table, and browsed the news he had missed tonight.

Hou Yirong approached and sat down next to him, and Hou Yunjiao didn't even raise his head as he asked, "What's the matter?"

"It seems Nicholas brought Leslie with him."

"How did you figure that out?"

The third master's voice was calm, without much surprise in his tone, and he didn't even lift his head.
