Chapter 398: Happy Here
Chapter 398: Happy Here
The two of them went their separate ways and hurriedly ran back home.
Shu Yu entered her room and quickly took off her wet clothes. Fortunately, they had come back early, and the rain wasn't too heavy yet.
She hung the clothes on a rack, knowing they would dry quickly.
Shu Yu let out a sigh of relief and used a dry towel to pat her hair. Listening to the increasingly heavy rain outside and the misty atmosphere, her eyes curved slightly.
She hadn't expected such a fruitful outcome from their trip. She needed to think about the process of cultivating these sunflower seeds.
As she pondered, Shu Yu drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up the next day, it was still raining. The entire sky was filled with misty water vapor, and the village seemed to be engulfed in the sound of rain.
Shu Yu finished getting ready and opened the door. She saw Xiaozhen squatting on the steps, gazing at the curtain of rain in front of her. Her small hands occasionally reached out to catch the water, her face filled with a sense of wonder as she seemed lost in her thoughts.
Shu Yu turned around, went back to her room, and took two pieces of candy. She squatted down beside Xiaozhen and stuffed one into her mouth.
Xiaozhen was taken aback and turned her head in surprise. "Sister Ah Yu, it's so sweet."
"What were you thinking about so deeply?" Shu Yu asked in a hushed voice, imitating Xiaozhen's tone.
Xiaozhen smiled and whispered, "Sister Ah Yu, I feel so happy here. My parents and my little brother are with me. Although this is Sister Ah Yu's home, I prefer it here. When I wake up early in the morning, there are no scolding voices from Grandpa and Grandma, nor the quarrels of Aunt Yao and Uncle Yao next door."
Before they split up, their grandparents used to wake up early and intentionally shout loudly in front of their house. After the split, even though their family lived alone, Aunt Yao from next door didn't approve of them and deliberately came to their side of the courtyard to be unpleasant.
But when Xiaozhen woke up today, her parents were by her side, and there was a quietness in her ears, only the soothing sound of raindrops falling, which was very pleasant to hear.
Shu Yu gently ruffled her hair. "Your good days are still ahead of you."
"Yeah, I feel the same way too. Grandma said we've gone from bitterness to sweetness."
Both of them burst into laughter. Just then, Lu Sixing walked over and said, "Ah Yu, are you awake? Are you hungry? Breakfast is ready, come and eat."
Shu Yu held Xiaozhen's hand and walked to the kitchen. While they were having porridge, they heard a knock on the door from outside.
The sound of the rain was a bit loud, and at first, no one noticed it. It was only when Shu Yu sensed the familiar voice amidst the knocking sound that she reacted.
She quickly grabbed an umbrella and ran to open the door. Sure enough, Da Niu and Lu Dasong were standing outside.
Lu Dasong had gone to see Yuan Shanchuan and was talking to Lu Sixing, while Da Niu pulled Shu Yu aside and asked, "The rain doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. We definitely won't be able to go back to the county town this morning. Do you think Yuan Laoda will leave with the sunflower seeds?"
If that happened, they wouldn't be able to meet him.
Shu Yu took a bite of her pastry and thought for a moment before saying, "With this weather, I don't think any ox carts or mule carts will be out carrying passengers, right?"
Da Niu nodded. "Not many people will venture out in this weather. They generally won't go out to transport passengers."
"Unless Yuan Laoda wants to brave the heavy rain and go to the county town, he probably won't leave." It would take quite some time to travel to the county town.
But there was no certainty since Yuan Laoda did seem quite anxious.
