Chapter 419: Results
In the past, she felt just right, but now her fingers were icy, and cold sweat broke out on her back.
Hu Shi breathed a sigh of relief. She had seen the sweat on Madam's forehead, fearing that Madam might feel unwell, prompting her to speak up.
Ye Muyu agreed readily.
The two of them quickly returned home.
Ye Muyu went straight into the east wing.
Hu Shi went into the kitchen, fetched a basin of warm water and stood at the door. She lightly knocked on the door and respectfully said, "Madam, I've brought some water for you."
In no time, the door was pulled open.
Ye Muyu saw Hu Shi being so considerate and couldn't help but smile "Thank you, Hu Shi. Just place it on the stooland you can rest."
"Yes." Hu Shi was never one to talk too much. After placing the basin down, she returned to her room.
Usually at this time Ye Muyu would be taking a nap, either dozing off for a while or sitting in the room making clothes for the family. She always had something to do.
In the east wing.
Ye Muyu took off her outer garment.
After wiping her body with a cloth and changing into a fresh undergarment, she finally felt more comfortable.
The drowsiness surged, and Ye Muyu didn't bother to tidy up anymore. She lay on the bed, covered herself with a thin quilt and fell asleep.
Ye Muyu slept quite soundly this time. When she woke up, the scorching sun was already slanting westwards, indicating that it was not early.
Ye Muyu rubbed her forehead. After sleeping for a while her hands which had been cold in the morning finally felt warmer.
Slightly furrowing her brows, it seemed that she was still in a cold state. After getting up, she put on her clothes, changed her socks to a new pair that covered every inch of her skin, to avoid catching a chill.
"Madam, are you awake?" Hu Shi was drying vegetables in the courtyard.
Seeing Ye Muyu coming out, she quickly greeted, "Madam, I don't know how you've arranged the ink, so I didn't dare to touch anything."
"It should be fine now. I'll go take a look." Ye Muyu briskly walked to where the ink was drying. The ink-making process was complicated, with refining the soot being the most challenging part.
Linseed oil was the most suitable material for making oil soot ink, as it was easy to obtain soot.
The ink Ye Muyu made this time mainly used linseed oil as the main ingredient, adding pork fat, raw lacquer, and others.
She had no experience in making it for the first time and did not add precious spices, so the ink had an average smell.
She was not sure if it would be successful, so she naturally didn't care about the fragrance.
"Madam, can this ink really be used?" Hu Shi was curious.
Ye Muyu shook her head, "I don't know. Let's try it. I don't even know if the temperature control is right this time."
Ye Muyu held a molded ink block and went into the study.
Hu Shi finished her task before following her in.
Ye Muyu ground the ink slowly. After the ink was ground, Hu Shi came in. She kept her movements light, standing aside without disturbing.
Taking the brush, Ye Muyu took a piece of white paper and began to write slowly.
Hu Shi couldn't read, barely remembering her own name and numbers. Although she didn't know what Madam was writing now, she could tell that the characters were beautifully written.
"Madam, your handwriting seems even better now." Hu Shi couldn't help but exclaim.
After finishing the last stroke, Ye Muyu put down the brush and looked at the characters on the paper. They were firm, glossy, and black, meeting the characteristics of oil soot ink.
It was indeed different from the pine soot ink she had used before.
Oil soot ink was suitable for artistic creations. The brushstrokes for writing in cursive and regular script were smooth, making them look better.
This was the reason why Hu Shi was surprised.
Ye Muyu looked at it for a while, gently blowing on the writing. After the ink dried, she reached out and touched it.
