Chapter 192: Father was Bitten by a Giant Snake

Suisui was startled awake by a nightmare.

In her dream, a snake with a head bigger than her own lunged at her father, sinking its fangs into his leg and refusing to let go.

Suisui wanted to help, but there seemed to be some barrier between her and her father. No matter what she did, she couldn’t get past it. In desperation, she pounded and stomped her feet within the dream.

But it was no use.

After struggling for what felt like forever, all she could see was the massive snake throwing her father to the ground, coiling around his leg, and sinking its large, sharp-fanged mouth into his thigh.

Her father’s face twisted in pain, his voice sharp with agony.

Yet even so, the giant snake wasn’t deterred.

The creature, undeterred, even tore a piece of flesh from his leg.

The scene was gruesome, blood everywhere—a terrifying sight.

Unable to bear it any longer, Suisui screamed, waking herself up in fright.

After waking, she looked around but couldn’t see her mother, which made her feel even more upset.

Fortunately, her mother soon returned. Comforted by her mother’s familiar scent and warmth, Suisui snuggled deeply into Qi Wangfei’s embrace, crying out, “Mother, I’m scared.”

Qi Wangfei, thinking the previous incident with Concubine Che had upset Suisui , turned and gave Prince Qi a sharp glare.

Prince Qi, flustered and at a loss, stood there clueless about what had just happened but was already getting the blame.

Prince Qi: ?

I didn’t even do anything!

But he dared not say it aloud.

It was his unkempt state that had triggered the entire incident, after all.

Feeling somewhat guilty, he discreetly sniffed himself.

Hey, he didn’t smell anymore!

Now he smelled just as pleasant as his wife.

This time, his child would surely like him!

With this thought, Prince Qi walked over to the bedside with a smile.

The Nanny, who had a keen sense of the moment, quickly stepped aside, and Prince Qi took her place, sitting down and gently patting Suisui on her back.

Suisui didn’t resist and turned to look at her father’s face. Recalling the nightmare where her father was bitten by a giant snake, she couldn’t hold back her tears again. “Mother, Father was bitten by a snake!”

Qi Wangfei: ?

Prince Qi: ??

Huh?

He was perfectly fine!

And he hadn’t encountered any snakes at the estate either.

How could he have been bitten?

Prince Qi couldn’t understand it, but to comfort the child, he smiled and reassured her, “Yes, yes, there was a bite before, but I’ve had medicine applied, and I’m all better now. Don’t worry, Suisui ; Father knows you care about him, but I’m all right now. Don’t cry, sweetheart; it makes Father’s heart ache to see you cry.”

If Prince Qi had actually been bitten at the estate, he would have returned home immediately, and word would have spread.

So Qi Wangfei knew he was just soothing Suisui .

She joined in, “Yes, it’s all right now. Grandpa Liu, who’s so skilled, treated Father’s leg. It doesn’t hurt anymore; everything is fine.”

Suisui shook her head vigorously. “No, it was a giant snake, a really big snake!”

Unable to fully explain her dream, Suisui simply relayed what she saw.

But what exactly this “giant snake” was, she couldn’t fully describe.

Finally, exhausted from crying and comforted by her mother’s warm embrace, Suisui drifted back to sleep.

The scare had taken a toll on the young child, leaving visible dark circles under her eyes.

Qi Wangfei, feeling uneasy, instructed Haitang to call Physician Liu to come check again.

After calming Suisui , Qi Wangfei remained apprehensive and didn't dare to leave, so she stayed by the bedside, holding the child.

Thinking about Suisui ’s dream, Qi Wangfei asked worriedly, “You really weren’t bitten? If you were, remember to keep a close watch. Some snakes have venom that can lie dormant, and you never know when it might flare up. Don’t take it lightly. If Physician Liu isn’t skilled in this area, we can go to the palace and ask the emperor for the court physician!”

Prince Qi felt wronged and unable to defend himself after returning home! He waved his hand dismissively. “I really wasn’t bitten; I was just comforting the child. Can’t you see that?”

As he spoke, Prince Qi boldly rolled up his sleeves and even hiked up his pants.

Shaoyao: ???

Wait, Your Highness, you’re not treating me like an outsider, are you?

Qi Wangfei promised that when she was old enough, she could choose her husband and didn’t have to serve as Prince Qi’s concubine!

So, she couldn’t bear to watch this scene!

Shaoyao quickly turned her back in shock.

Seeing this, Prince Qi felt a bit embarrassed.

He hadn’t intended to make the servant uncomfortable. Given the current situation, he should have been more discreet.

But he was just anxious.

After realizing what he’d done, Prince Qi awkwardly adjusted his clothes.

Qi Wangfei noticed and shot him a glare before telling Shaoyao, “Shaoyao, go check if there’s any sweet soup left from lunch. If there is, put it on the stove to warm up. It’ll be good for Suisui when she wakes up. If there isn’t any, make a new batch. Ask Aunt Qiu if she has any calming herbs; she can keep an eye on the cooking.”

Shaoyao quickly responded and hurriedly left the room.

She thought to herself: Thank goodness, thank goodness! My eyes are safe!

Now only Aunt Xiang was left in the room.

Prince Qi thought that since she wasn’t too young, she should be fine now.

He then considered stripping off his clothes to prove he hadn’t been bitten!

At his age, could he still lie?

Qi Wangfei couldn’t stand it and chided, “You’re being so improper!”

This was her way of expressing belief.

After hearing this, Prince Qi chuckled awkwardly, “I need to prove my innocence. If I wasn’t bitten, then I wasn’t bitten; if I didn’t do it, then I didn’t do it.”

This was a subtle expression of the grievances he felt for being wrongly accused before.

Qi Wangfei shot him a look, gently patting Suisui while pondering the child’s dream.

Suisui ’s dream…

It was unusual!

If this had been before their visit to Lanruo Temple, Qi Wangfei might not have paid much attention.

But having consulted the oracle and given guidance to the He family, she couldn’t simply convince herself that Suisui was just an ordinary child.

This child…

Though she was unloved by her family, Heaven cared for her!

Chen Dalang and the Jin Yang Marquis’s family were simply not blessed; this child should not return to them and miss out on the fortune Suisui could bring!

Now that she was in their family, Qi Wangfei had never thought of using the child’s fortune for anything.

To put it simply, the Qi family was already esteemed enough; they didn’t need to leverage a child to gain any benefits.

Moreover, looking at their household, from the prince to the young masters, they were all a bit foolish. If they were handed immense wealth, would they be able to keep it?

Qi Wangfei expressed doubt.

So, this current situation was just fine.

However, sometimes, even when they didn’t seek such riches, Suisui still insisted on bringing them!

This child was sincere and also grateful.

If someone showed her a bit of kindness, she would go out of her way to help others avoid disaster.

From the previous visit with the Grand Princess, the He family at Lanruo Temple, and even now with the prince’s situation.

Qi Wangfei couldn’t help but think more deeply. With Suisui ’s dream giving such hints, what would happen with the prince?

What was about to unfold?
