Chapter 2: His White Moonlight is Her Sister
Chapter 2: His White Moonlight is Her Sister
Ning Qing took out a photo and placed it on the table.
Then, she saw waves of emotions stirring in the man's calm eyes, his temperature dropping suddenly.
She knew she had made the right bet.
The woman in the photo was seventeen or eighteen years old, wearing a white dress with black hair, and her features were vivid and lively. Her smiling face was as beautiful as a flower, a face that the man couldn't resist at first sight.
The cold gaze pierced through her like icy daggers, as if he could tear her apart on the spot.
"You went into my study?"
Ning Qing's smile was somewhat bitter. "If I hadn't gone into your study, how would I have known that the person you have been hiding in your heart is my sister?"
That was right.
The woman in the photo looked almost exactly like Ning Qing herself, making it hard for her to distinguish between them. But Ning Qing knew that the person who could show such a charming and delicate demeanor was definitely not her.
Taking a deep breath, Ning Qing said, "So, Nian Lian, you have always loved my sister, and because you couldn't marry her, you settled for me instead, is that right?"
His silence confirmed Ning Qing's guess.
She wanted to laugh, but couldn't find it in herself to do so.
Her voice was filled with sorrow, and her lips trembled. "You used me as a substitute for her. Do you find that amusing?"
Nian Lian's expression remained unchanged, but a storm was brewing within him.
In the light and shadow, his delicate features were still clearly visible.
Suddenly, Ning Qing thought of the scene where Ning Su stood beside him.
One gentle and passionate, the other deeply in love and gentle, anyone who saw them would praise them as a match made in heaven. She was no exception.
If... if her sister was still alive.
Thinking of this, Ning Qing's long eyelashes drooped, her expression fragile and vulnerable.
Her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible.
"I don't remember what happened before, but I didn't intend for the car accident to happen..."
"Shut up!"
Nian Lian suddenly spoke up.
Ning Qing bit her lip, facing his deadly gaze and continued, "I know that none of you wanted my sister to die. If possible, you would have preferred for me to die instead, but I'm still alive."
"..."
Tears brimmed in her eyes as she was overcome with emotion.
"Nian Lian, if you want to remember her, you can, no one will stop you. But you can't drag me along with you," she said.
She had never committed any wrongdoing between the two of them, and she didn't even know how her sister and Nian Lian had met and fallen in love, let alone how she had coveted and intervened in their relationship.
If there was one mistake she had made in her life, it was in relation to Ning Su.
But if she had to make amends, it would be to Ning Su, not by occupying the position that originally belonged to her, and throwing her life away on Nian Lian.
It was unfair to the deceased Ning Su.
And to her as well.
"Hmph."
A cold sneer made Ning Qing stiffen.
Nian Lian's expression was fierce, his black eyes carrying an earth-shattering pain. Under his calm tone was a strong sense of mockery: "Ning Qing, what's the point of saying these things now?"
Ning Qing shuddered, her lips trembling: "I..."
"Do you want me to let you go?" he asked, leaving Ning Qing feeling frozen.
Nian Lian stood up, a dark shadow falling over them like a cage.
The butt of his cigarette burned out, scorching his fingertips. His face remained calm and emotionless as he declared in a chilling tone: "As long as you're alive, I won't let you go."
"..."
"In this lifetime, don't even think about escaping."
Torn pieces of paper floated in the light, eerie and sad.
Ning Qing saw Nian Lian walk out of the room without even glancing at her from the jumbled pieces of paper on the floor. Tears finally escaped her eyes, running down her cheeks and falling to the ground.
For a long time, the woman stood up from the ground and stooped down to pick up the scattered pieces of paper.
Her head hung low, her tears leaving streaks on her face. The sorrow in her eyes was evident, but there were also deeper emotions that were difficult to discern.
In the end, she balled up the scraps of paper and threw them into the trash bin from afar.
