Chapter 489: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 489: Black Cloud Leopard (1)
The journey was either steep mountains or endless forests. Yuhua Mountain's vastness far exceeded Mo Yan's imagination. Immersed in it, she suddenly felt a sense of insignificance, as if this endless expanse of mountains and forests could easily swallow her without a sound.
They had no idea how long they had walked or how far they had traveled. The python leisurely slithered through the dense jungle, its tough skin unbothered by thorns and rocks, effortlessly clearing the path ahead. Da Bai followed closely, ears perked, vigilantly alert to any movement nearby. Mo Yan trailed behind, using a wooden stick to push aside obstructive bushes. Xiao Hua and Mao Tuan brought up the rear, occasionally stopping to watch for attacks from behind.
Despite having the spatial field as a refuge, seeing the cautious behavior of the beasts made Mo Yan unconsciously anxious. They ventured into the mountains this time to find something precious the four beasts had located with difficulty. If they encountered unforeseen dangers, although her life wasn't at risk, obtaining that item might become impossible.
Fortunately, the journey had been relatively smooth. The biggest threats encountered were several groups of wild boars foraging and colorful snakes. They hadn't encountered predators like tigers or wolves. With the protection of the three beasts and the python, any boars or snakes instinctively kept their distance.
Navigating through untouched deep mountains was challenging. Even with the python clearing the path and Mo Yan using a stick to handle thorns and weeds, her delicate face and hands inevitably received numerous small cuts, oozing beads of blood. However, she was so focused on advancing that she paid little attention to these non-life-threatening injuries.
The pace of one person and four beasts wasn't slow, yet Mo Yan's legs grew increasingly sore and tired. Only when her speed noticeably slowed did the beasts belatedly halt. They seemed to confer silently before the python, with its large size and ability to effortlessly part the thorny undergrowth, used its long tail to wrap Mo Yan and placed her at the forefront.
Without Mo Yan "slowing them down," the pace of the four beasts quickened. After about half an hour, they arrived at the foot of a large mountain and stopped.
Compared to the towering surrounding mountains that pierced the clouds, the one before them wasn't particularly tall. However, lush vegetation covered the entire mountain, dense and impenetrable. A glance revealed an eerie sense of mystery within its deep tranquility.
Observing the beasts' alertness focused halfway up the mountain, Mo Yan realized they had reached their destination. What could possibly make them so cautious? These four formidable creatures weren't easy to provoke individually, let alone collectively. Even if faced with a pack of wolves, the strongest of predators, they could escape effortlessly if not win.
The python gently set Mo Yan down, flicking its crimson tongue towards the jungle, hissing softly. This unexpected caution made Mo Yan tense. Subconsciously touching her right palm, she watched the serene forest warily. If danger arose, she could swiftly retreat into the spatial field with the four beasts.
The python hissed for quite some time, yet there was no movement from the trees, not even a bird in sight, as if the forest were devoid of life.
Just as Mo Yan began to think this, her vision blurred suddenly. A creature entirely black, slightly smaller than Da Bai but resembling a cat, shot out of the forest like lightning. It landed about fifteen yards away, its deep blue, sharp eyes staring directly at her over the beasts blocking its path.
