Chapter 11: I Got Married, My Sister Died Too
Chapter 11: I Got Married, My Sister Died Too
A private apartment in the eastern part of the city.
Yansichen carefully helped Ning Qing into the door, turned on the lights, and said, "You sit first," before heading to the bedroom.
Ning Qing looked around at the simple Nordic decor, which was fitting for Yansichen's style.
Yansichen returned with a first-aid kit in hand.
He sat beside her, and when he lowered his head, Ning Qing could see the worry and concern in his eyes.
"What happened? Why did you get hurt like this?" he asked.
"I fell by accident."
Ning Qing pursed her lips and took the cotton swab from his hand. "Brother Sichen, let me do it myself."
"Okay."
A hint of disappointment flickered across Yansichen's face, but he let her take the cotton swab.
Then there was silence for several minutes.
Yansichen gazed at Ning Qing's profile. She had always been beautiful since childhood, lively and cute, and her pitiful expression could easily soften people's hearts.
Now, her face had matured, and she had a new sense of purity and indifference. Her lips were tightly pursed, her small face was pale, and the way she endured the pain made Yansichen's heart ache.
Ning Qing finished bandaging herself up and looked up at him. "Thank you so much for today, Brother Sichen."
If she hadn't met him, she would probably have been wandering outside all night.
Yansichen's lips curved up. "When you were young and made Uncle Ning unhappy, you always ran to hide in my closet. How come you've become so polite now that you're grown up?"
She used to be quite troublesome and often made mistakes. Whenever something happened, she would either let Ning Su take the blame for her or run to his house.
At that time, his family and Ning's family were neighbors. When the Ning twins appeared, he had been by their side all along. It could be said that they had grown up together under his care.
But later on, his family moved abroad due to the development of their overseas business when she was ten years old.
When they parted ways, he didn't expect it to be such a heart-wrenching scene.
Yansichen thought back to the scene earlier.
The woman was kneeling on the ground, with a bewildered and lost expression on her face. Her clothes were torn, and she had traces of blood on her body, and her shoes were nowhere to be found.
Ning Qing blushed at the mention of her childhood blunders. "That was because I was young and didn't know any better."
He looked at her, his eyes still as gentle as ever in the dim light. "In my eyes, you're always a child, and there's no such thing as not knowing any better."
Ning Qing loosened the grip on her hand that had been clenching tightly.
Her tightly clenched hands loosened a bit.
Seeing that she still couldn't relax, Yan Sichen got up and poured a cup of hot water, handing it to her.
Ning Qing took the cup and said, "Thank you."
Feeling the warmth in her palm, she began to relax.
Yan Sichen asked, "Are you ready to tell me what happened now?"
Ning Qing lowered her head and looked at the water glass. Her face was full of waves and not calm, just like her at the moment.
She had a vacant look in her eyes and whispered, "Brother Sichen, I got married."
Yan Sichen froze in shock, his brown eyes flashing.
Ning Qing's face was gray and her gaze was as still as a dead pond.
She raised her head and looked at him.
"And, you know, my sister also died."
In an instant, Yan Sichen's face changed dramatically, and his heart was as if being twisted in pain. "Qingqing..."
Ning Qing gave a bitter smile and continued to speak to herself:
"Three years ago, I was being willful and insisted on going to the Gulf for a vacation. My sister couldn't persuade me, so she drove me there. As a result, we had a car accident on the way.
She was critically injured and died before we could get to the hospital.
I was also injured in the head and fell into a coma. I lay in the hospital bed for three years before waking up."
