 Chapter 50: The Basement

Sheng Mingsi returned quite early today, but Jiang Chenchen was engrossed in studying in the study, so she didn't notice his arrival.

At dinner time, Jiang Chenchen intended to tell him about her plans to be away for three or four days. She thought of the excuse that she would accompany Xia Changli to her hometown.

Aunt Hua mentioned that Mr. Sheng was in the basement and instructed them to go ahead and have their meal.

Jiang Chenchen knew that Sheng Mingsi sometimes went to the basement, but she never knew what was down there. Despite spending more time here, her range of movement was quite limited.

Sheng Mingsi had mentioned that there were places she couldn't go.

But this time, after finishing dinner and study sessions, Xia Changli had already gone back to rest. Jiang Chenchen didn't wait for Sheng Mingsi to come upstairs. While listening to the sounds in her room, she found it difficult to focus on solving math problems.

Looking at the time, it was already half-past eleven at night.

After thinking it over, Jiang Chenchen decided to go down and take a look.

This house had two basement levels. She took the elevator down and pressed -1. Soon, she arrived at the first basement level. The lights on this level were dim; Sheng Mingsi shouldn't be here.

So, she pressed -2, descending to the second basement level. The peculiar cold atmosphere of the basement enveloped her.

The corridor was well-lit, indicating that Sheng Mingsi was on this level.

Curiosity filled Jiang Chenchen's mind. What was he doing down here? He had been here for several hours.

In front of the corridor was a heavy door with an electronic passcode lock beside it.

The door was closed, and Sheng Mingsi was inside.

It seemed she wouldn't be able to meet him even after coming down.

Jiang Chenchen stood outside the door for a moment, deciding to try the passcode lock.

A six-digit combination could take an entire night to crack, but she wanted to give it a try. She focused on studying the lock.

The door opened, and Jiang Chenchen thought she had succeeded. When she looked up, she realized that Sheng Mingsi was standing inside.

He had opened the door.

He was wearing a white coat and glasses, exuding a cold aura. When he saw Jiang Chenchen, he furrowed his brows in displeasure.

His tone was quite unfriendly, "Who allowed you to come down?"

Jiang Chenchen knew she had upset him again, "I... I had something to tell you."

Sheng Mingsi took off the gloves on his hands, his voice weary, "What is it?"

Jiang Chenchen lowered her head; her tone didn't change when she lied, "Tomorrow, Teacher Xia and I are going to her hometown for about three or four days. Is that okay?"

Sheng Mingsi, who also had a business trip tomorrow, heard this and asked, "Where are you going?"

"Haidao City."

Sheng Mingsi's eyes twitched slightly, unexpectedly the same place as him.

Without asking further, he didn't plan to travel with her, even though they were going to the same place tomorrow.

"Be careful on the road," he reminded.

Jiang Chenchen, hearing his response as agreement, nodded.

"Still standing here for what? Go back to sleep."

Sheng Mingsi took off the white coat, hung it aside, removed his glasses, turned off the light inside, walked out, and closed the door behind him.

Jiang Chenchen's line of sight was cut off. Although she saw some equipment and facilities from the door, it looked a lot like the things in a hospital.

Sheng Mingsi cleared his throat, his face indifferent, his tone stern, "You are not allowed to come down here in the future."

Was this a kind of warning?

Jiang Chenchen nodded obediently, afraid that he would get angry and ask her to leave again.

She quickly said, "I won't."
