Chapter 88: Thoughts - Rebirth of the Noble Daughter

 Chapter 88: Thoughts

Feng Jinlin weakly smiled, "It's nothing, just got a bit cold. A hot bath will fix it."

The two servants, Song Nan and Song Bei, who were attending to Feng Jinlin immediately stepped forward to support him. They ordered a large tub of hot water to be prepared.

After settling into the wooden tub, the warmth drove away the chill from his body, and Feng Jinlin finally felt alive again.

The bruises on his body became more apparent in the water. Song Nan frowned as he observed, "Second Young Master, what happened? Did you get into a fight again?"

Feng Jinlin closed his eyes and chuckled at his remark, "Do you really think I'm that combative?"

Song Nan held his tongue. He knew his master wasn't one to seek fights, but so many bruises needed an explanation. Just as he was thinking about it, Feng Jinlin instructed, "Don't spread this matter around, understand?"

"Understood."

Having followed him for many years, both servants were trustworthy. Feng Jinlin trusted them enough to let them skip school for nearly four months without being discovered, so he was confident in their discretion.

Damn it!

He had been too heavy-handed. Fortunately, he hadn't hit his face; otherwise, during such a big festival, he wouldn't be able to explain himself even to his family.

Thinking of that person, Feng Jinlin gritted his teeth. He was proud of his martial arts skills in the Eastern Capital, but he couldn't last even thirty moves.

There's always someone better out there.

He calmed his mind and focused on recuperating. The road ahead was long, and he would face it when he was ready!

That evening, news of Feng Yunli's fall into the water and subsequent fever reached Madam Feng. Although he was just a son from a concubine, he was still her grandson. Upon hearing the news, she hurried over.

Seeing Madam Wen feeding Yunli porridge bit by bit, she looked frail but at least well.

"Yunli..."

"Grandmother, I'm alright... *cough*..."

He had suffered quite a bit this time. Although the fever had subsided, the pool water had entered his lungs and talking caused him pain. He frowned in discomfort, his small face creased.

Madam Feng approached and patted his back, comforting him, "There, there, don't speak. It's during the festive season; how could such an oversight happen!"

Madam Wen felt quite guilty. She had neglected Yunli somewhat, thinking that since she and Concubine Lin had already fallen out, why should she care about her child? As a result, she had let the servants take liberties, even agreeing to activities like winter fishing!

This had caused this disaster.

She apologized profusely, making Madam Feng feel she might have been too harsh. Without any legitimate children of her own, if she had them, she might not be as attentive as Madam Wen.

Helping Madam Wen up, she said, "I'm not blaming you. You have to take care of Yunhe and manage all the household affairs. It's normal to make mistakes, but Yunli is like this... why not move him to my courtyard? Bai Mama and the others have raised children, so they will take good care of him."

Madam Wen was somewhat surprised, not sure what Madam Feng meant by this suggestion?

Although she wasn't blaming her, the suggestion implied a concern about her ability to care for him properly.

Just as she was thinking, Yunli suddenly sat up and hugged Madam Wen's arm tightly. His weak face grew even redder from the effort, "I'm not leaving, I'm not leaving. I want to stay with Mother."

Madam Feng was genuinely surprised to see this scene. How had Yunli become so clingy to her in just a few days!

Madam Wen was also taken aback. She had only been taking care of Yunli for these two days, so why was he so reluctant to leave her?

Yunli didn't have as many twists and turns in his heart as an adult. He only knew that when he was groggy, his mother was there to accompany him, and when he cried endlessly, his mother was there to coax him to sleep.

Now that he was here, he felt comfortable, and he didn't want to go anywhere else.

Although only four years old, the child knew who treated him sincerely.

Seeing him like this, Madam Feng felt quite relieved. She patted Madam Wen's hand, "You've taken good care of him, and he likes it here. Just let him stay. Besides, I'm fully recovered now, so you don't have to worry about household affairs these days. Just focus on Yunli's recovery."

Madam Wen thanked Madam Feng deeply. As a mother-in-law, such trust was rare.

She continued to feed Yunli the porridge, which he struggled to eat but found as sweet as honey.

Before nightfall, Feng Jinyao came to visit again. Learning that Yunli was much better and already asleep, she went straight to Feng Jinlin's courtyard, only to be turned away again.

Song Nan said that since he returned, he had been resting in his room after taking a hot bath, and he had been asleep for most of the day.

He sneaked in to see and said he was still sound asleep.

"In that case, I'll go back first. I'll come back to see him when Second Brother wakes up tomorrow."

"Yes, please take care, Third Miss."

Feng Jinyao brought back the priceless Buddha's Heart Fruit this time. She had only heard of this medicine in her previous life and had never seen it, so how could Second Brother know someone who had it, and still easily get it?

There were too many mysteries surrounding this Feng Jinyao. This night, she didn't sleep well.

In her dreams, she returned to the past, where her family members lay in a pool of blood, crying and crying, shocking her so much that she couldn't sleep again in the middle of the night.

The embroidered flowers and plants on the bed canopy were particularly bright under the moonlight outside the window, but she didn't know that Feng Jinyao had changed into a black silk robe and quietly disappeared on the main street in front of the Feng government.

When it was slightly lighter, Feng Jinyao finally couldn't hold back and fell asleep.

Yunxu quietly opened the door and saw a half-lit candle and a dozen books on the bed. She knew that Feng Jinyao hadn't slept well last night.

She gently picked up the quilt and covered it, then quietly walked out.

Outside, Xiuqiu had already got up, and when Yunxu came out of the house, she whispered, "Should I prepare hot water? Is the young lady going to get up?"

Yunxu shook her head, "She didn't sleep well last night, so let the young lady sleep a little longer today."

"Okay." Xiuqiu didn't doubt it at all, and she took a few mouthfuls of hot air and rubbed her hands before walking towards the small kitchen.

In these days, the kitchen has bought good milk, and she is not busy today, so she can make some milk cake, which is the favorite of the young lady, and also to give some to the second master, who is now working hard and naturally eat as much as possible to satisfy.

Maybe tired, Feng Jinyao slept well this time and didn't feel the same discomfort as midnight.

When she woke up, it was almost lunch time.

"Why didn't you call me?"

While letting Yunxu serve her combing and washing, she murmured quietly.
