Chapter 27: Is Uncle Mingsi Your Uncle Too?

So, it turns out she doesn't hate him.

Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief, and his tears ceased.

Sheng Mingsi reached out and ruffled the boy's head in a comforting manner, though his gaze was fixed on Jiang Chenchen.

His voice was deep, "You did well."

Jiang Chenchen sat on the floor, looking up at him with a vacant expression. Her long lashes fluttered, and beneath his tall and slender figure, her small face resembled a soft and vulnerable rabbit.

Sheng Mingsi's brow twitched, and he spoke coldly, "Get up. You two should get to know each other. I'll be heading to the company shortly. If you need anything, find Aunt Hua."

Jiang Chenchen stood up and asked, "What time will you be back?"

Sheng Mingsi paused for a moment. She rarely took the initiative to ask anything; this was the first time she had done so. Previously, she would only respond when asked.

He collected his thoughts and replied, "During dinner."

Jiang Chenchen nodded.

Xiaoyu, on his tiptoes, spoke, "Sister, you still haven't told me your name."

Jiang Chenchen looked at the child, concentrated, and answered, "Jiang, Chenchen."

Xiaoyu was delighted that she told him her name. He then asked with innocence and curiosity, "Sister, who are you to Uncle Mingsi? Why haven't I seen you before?"

Jiang Chenchen pondered upon his words. Who was she to Sheng Mingsi?

She looked up at Sheng Mingsi.

Sheng Mingsi cleared his throat, maintaining his usual indifferent expression.

Just as he was about to speak, the clever child chimed in, "Sister, is Uncle Mingsi your uncle too?"

Sheng Mingsi: ...?

Jiang Chenchen shook her head as if to say no.

Sheng Mingsi squatted down, pinching the boy's chubby cheeks, and frowned, "Listen carefully. This sister is my friend."

Jiang Chenchen nodded slowly. So, she was a friend.

The little boy, finally escaping from the clutches of the big monster, exclaimed, "Uncle Mingsi, you're as strict as my dad!"

Sheng Mingsi lowered his eyelids, looking at him, "Is that so?"

The little guy innocently smiled, "But you're still better than my dad!"

Sheng Mingsi chuckled, "Little rascal."

Jiang Chenchen's expression, usually dull, changed at this unexpected sight. He actually smiled—the radiant smile of the person who seemed as bright as summer, but it vanished quickly.

She looked at the mischievous little guy in confusion.

How amazing that he could make him smile.

Sheng Mingsi adjusted his collar and said, "Fish, I'll buy you a toy tonight. How about that?"

The little guy jumped with joy, "I want!"

"Then, you have to get along well with... Sister, okay?"

Sheng Mingsi paused when mentioning Sister.

The little guy promised obediently.

Although Sheng Mingsi wasn't entirely reassured, with someone watching at home, nothing should go wrong.

So, he left.

Jiang Chenchen and the child got along harmoniously. The child found this sister a bit aloof, but having grown accustomed to his strict dad, he could adapt well.

In fact, he acted more like an adult, leading her to play.

After a few days, Jiang Chenchen developed trust in the child, and their conversations increased.

When Sheng Mingsi deemed the time right, he arranged for a private tutor to come and provide additional academic support.

The tutor was a young, accomplished graduate—calm and reserved. Despite the surprise at the household situation, she earnestly and conscientiously taught.

After attending one lesson, Sheng Mingsi closed his eyes and blinked.
