The wooden beauty of Young Master Sheng(29)
Chapter 29: No One Has Ever Smiled
For a moment, Sheng Mingsi froze. He couldn't bear the direct and innocent gaze. Even the warmth in the hand he held made him unconsciously step back.
He pulled back his hand. "Go to sleep."
Displaying a sense of unfamiliarity and dominance, Jiang Chenchen obediently stood up. "Okay."
Sheng Mingsi left without further delay.
Jiang Chenchen looked towards the door, lost in thought.
But she continued to study day and night, sleeping less, her complexion not as good, but her mind became more enriched.
She never thought that when advancing towards a goal with effort, she would feel so happy.
It's happiness, she thought.
Xia Changli admired her perseverance in studying because missing things could only be compensated for by doubling one's efforts.
The two of them gradually became acquainted. Jiang Chenchen would answer her questions and chat with her.
But neither of the two girls liked to smile, and no one had ever smiled.
One night, around nine o'clock, still studying, Xia Changli received a message and suddenly burst into tears. She didn't cry out loud, but tears fell heavily.
The tears fell on the textbook, creating ripples that magnified the words.
Jiang Chenchen stared at the tears on the book, then looked at Xia Changli. With tears in her eyes, Xia Changli apologized softly and walked out to the balcony. The study room's balcony was closed, but Xia Changli opened a window. The cold wind outside messed up her hair and froze her face, almost freezing her tears.
She found that she couldn't cry anymore.
There was no longer anyone in this world who could make her sad.
She closed the window, turned back into the room, calmed her emotions, and prepared to continue the lesson.
Jiang Chenchen handed her a tissue.
Xia Changli took the tissue and said with her head down, "Thank you. I'm fine. It was just a moment of emotional outburst, making a fool of myself in front of you."
She continued to teach as if nothing had happened.
Half an hour later, today's study ended.
Xia Changli did not return to her room but walked outside.
It took some time to walk from where Xia Changli lived to the station. At this time, it was not convenient to take a taxi or a bus, but she had to go there.
The consecutive exhaustion pressed heavily on her frail body, making her steps even heavier.
A car stopped beside her, and she never expected it to be Jiang Chenchen.
"Get in."
Xia Changli got into the car. Although all her suppressed emotions couldn't be held back, she couldn't even express her thanks. She just felt her nose tingling.
Jiang Chenchen didn't say anything either.
The car was not lit inside, and it was quiet in the darkness.
Only the sound of snowflakes falling on the roof could be heard outside.
After a while, Xia Changli sniffed and spoke in a low voice, "Thank you, Jiang Chenchen. Go to Qinglin Hospital."
Jiang Chenchen started the navigation, and the car quickly arrived.
The doctor led Xia Changli to the mortuary. Her mother passed away a little after nine o'clock, ending a fifteen-year history of being bedridden.
The doctor felt sorry for this child. Her father used to come, but later, he stopped. She had been the only one taking care of her mother.
The care and expenses for a vegetable person were still high, and she had no way to take her home. She could only leave her in the hospital.
How she persisted with the high expenses was unknown.
The most crucial thing was the complete absence of visible hope.
Now, it was truly a release.
The doctor patted her shoulder, shook his head, and left.
Jiang Chenchen stood by her side, looking at the person lying there with closed eyes. Her vacant eyes seemed to be in a trance.
