Chapter 29: Call Your Father to the Kitchen
Ye Muyu pondered on the people and events she encountered after crossing over, finding that the most challenging to get along with was Chu Heng. The original owner and Chu Heng didn't spend much time together. After their marriage, Chu Heng was mostly away studying in the county, returning only once every three months. However, Ye Muyu was confident that with time, she could understand his character better. Now, she already knew. Chu Heng was usually rational but had a deep mind. His attitude towards the original owner, her, was not good because of her past foolish actions which he found repulsive. She needed to tailor her approach accordingly. Ye Muyu felt that since she had arrived, Chu Heng's reasons for disliking her had disappeared. She wasn't too worried. Life had to go on. The first important thing was to finish making the shoes. When Chu Ziluo went to the old house tomorrow, it was to avoid being ridiculed. Leaving an indelible impact on the children's minds wouldn't be good. Ye Muyu worked diligently spending two consecutive hours making shoes. When she heard Chu Ziluo's call, she looked up, stood up to stretch her muscles, feeling aches and pains everywhere. She had only finished one shoe and she hadn't even had time to add the patterns. Putting away the shoe, Ye Muyu asked, "Ziluo, what time is it?" "Mother, it's already rooster time." That meant it was around five in the evening. It was getting late and she had to start preparing dinner. "I'll go prepare dinner." Ye Muyu stepped out of the room. After sitting for a long time she felt uncomfortable. Standing up was much more comfortable. Entering the kitchen, she took out the meat that had been soaking in the basin since noon. There was about half a pound left which should be enough. She chopped it into meatballs. She then looked at the beam above, where there was still a piece of cured meat isolated and impoverished. Well, there were vegetables, flour, and grains in the house. The staple food was not a problem. "Mother, little brother is wiping tears from exhaustion." Chu Ziluo came in, lowered her voice afraid Chu Heng might hear. Ye Muyu just remembered her son. Right, she had been sitting for a long time making shoes and feeling exhausted. He had been writing continuously, likely feeling very tired. After all, writing with a brush in this era required sitting up straight and paying attention to penmanship. Holding up a hand for an extended period could make adults feel tired what more for a child? "Go call your father to the kitchen." Ye Muyu said. Chu Ziluo looked at her in surprise. "Mother, call father?" "Yes, go ahead. Don't worry your father won't blame you." Ye Muyu could only guarantee because this child was timid. Although Chu Ziluo was frightened, she still went because she dared not disobey Ye Muyu's words. Ye Muyu looked around the kitchen and found a small jar of sugar, a few eggs, and a jar of rice wine lees. Other edible items were just common vegetables and she managed to find a few purple and red sweet potatoes in a corner. Ye Muyu had an idea. She washed the pot and added some water. When the water boiled, she added rice wine lees and sugar directly. When it was cooked enough, she cracked three eggs into the pot. Chu Heng entered just as he smelled the sweet aroma in the air. He walked over and saw what was cooking in the pot, furrowing his brows slightly. "You boiled eggs in rice wine?" "Yes, the taste is quite good." When Ye Muyu poured out the rice wine, she noticed that there were only a few lees in the jar, different from the rice wine she bought, which was mostly lees.📌 To Read The Latest Updates Click 👇👇
