Of course this was the pride of dignity not the arrogance of conceit.
Walking to the doorstep of Chu Heng's house and seeing the entrance of the courtyard neatly swept, Chu Liushi nodded in satisfaction.
She raised her hand and knocked on the door.
Before long, the door opened and it was Chu Ziluo who answered.
"Ziluo? Where's your mother?" Chu Liushi wasn't surprised that it was Chu Ziluo . She knew that this granddaughter was the most sensible but Ye Muyu was a bit foolish and didn't cherish this child.
Chu Ziluo replied "Grandma my mother is making shoes."
"Making shoes? Let me take a look." Chu Liushi knew that Ye Muyu liked to be lazy but she also treasured her third son. Though there were some defects in her character, it wasn't too serious—just some minor flaws.
Although she didn't like it, Chu Liushi knew that Ye Muyu was afraid of her. Knowing fear could change people and Ye Muyu wasn't beyond improvement.
Therefore, Chu Liushi's only regret was that she couldn't find a sensible daughter-in-law for her third son. But as a woman herself, she understood the hardships women faced and she didn't have the idea of sending Ye Muyu back home.
Since she couldn't send her back home, all she could do was teach her.
So, among the entire Ye family the one Ye Muyu feared the most was Chu Liushi.
Chu Ziluo in the courtyard called out for her mother.
Chu Liushi understood that she was reminding Ye Muyu. Acknowledging her granddaughter's deep affection for her mother, Chu Liu didn't say anything.
The courtyard wasn't large. Chu Liushi walked only a few steps, and she arrived at the doorstep of the east wing.
Ye Muyu knew when Chu Liushi entered the courtyard. Instead of immediately getting up she threaded the last stitch through, placed the shoes she had painstakingly made halfway into the basket and then got up to greet her.
"Mother, you've come?"
Ye Muyu naturally welcomed Chu Liushi in, then turned around and said, "Mother, please sit. I'll go fetch some tea for you."
She walked directly into the kitchen, brewed some tea, brought it over, and even brought tea cups.
Chu Liushi glanced at the shoes in the basket, checking the size. It was surprisingly not for her son but seemed to be for Chu Ziluo .
What's going on with Ye Muyu today?
Is she waking up?
While Chu Liushi was still puzzled, Ye Muyu returned.
Seeing her daughter-in-law staring at the shoes in the basket, Chu Liushi couldn't help but feel rare confusion. In her eyes Ye Muyu had always been lazy and she had never cherished this child.
She asked, "Are these shoes for Ziluo ?"
"Yes, from now on, Ziluo will trouble Mother to teach her manners. One pair of shoes isn't enough. I used to not understand but now I know it's not easy for a child. I want to learn well from Mother in the future." Ye Muyu's voice was sincere.
Chu Liushi couldn't say the skeptical words she had in mind. Hearing Ye Muyu saying she wanted to learn from her and admitting her previous mistakes, Chu Liushi was shocked.
If she had been surprised to see Ye Muyu making shoes for Chu Ziluo, now hearing Ye Muyu say she wanted to learn and realizing her mistakes, Chu Liushi felt like she was hearing things.
Could the bad habits from Ye Muyu be changed suddenly?
So, Chu Liushi began to doubt what Ye Muyu was up to. Did she have some malicious intent?
Seeing Chu Liushi's changing expression, Ye Muyu understand that she wasn't believed, felt a bit helpless. The original owner had left a deep impression of foolishness, so it was normal for the other party to not believe her sudden realization.
Not wanting to pretend, she decided to be straightforward. After all, no one knew that she had changed her core. Using a great awakening as an excuse was the most suitable.
